Check out this quick race between MG ZS EV and the facelifted Skoda Superb. Its an EV against one of the best driver-focused cars of the country.
Skoda Superb with its 2.0 Litre TSI engine is among the most powerful cars in the 30-40 Lakhs range. TSI with DSG is high-level performance and Superb is just filled with oodles of adrenaline. What happens when you put it against an EV? Like MG ZS EV. The latter is torquier and has single-speed transmission. Let’s check the results.
Towards the end of this video, you can see the ZS EV coming in a race with Skoda Superb Facelift. Its turbo petrol vs an electric motor. As the race starts, the ZS EV can be seen moving ahead very swiftly. By just the half of it, Superb is around half-a-car length behind and the EV becomes the ultimate winner.
This concludes that EVs are definitely built for performance as well. Superb gets a 2.0 Litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 190 PS and 320 Nm of peak torque, paired with a 7-speed DSG. ZS EV gets a 44.5 kWh electric motor that generates 141 PS and 353 Nm of peak torque.
You can see that on paper, the power figures are a lot lower than Superb. However, ZS EV offers comparatively more torque and that too, right from the start. Just press the pedal and instantly torque starts coming in, without any lag. That’s the main reason why MG ZS EV won this race against Skoda Superb.
Although, if we compare the top speed, definitely Superb becomes the winner. Plus, EVs have more dedicated drive modes including Sport, Normal and Eco. In the Sport mode, the throttle response is spot on and there’s torque boost as well. Even Superb for that instance gets drive modes but its Sport mode is not as responsive as an EV.
