Aftermarket car customizations have been going out of hand for quite a while now
In a rather shocking case of car modification, I came across a Maruti 800 with a two-door and soft top configuration. Despite being in this industry for over 5 years, I understand that these are not the kind of mods one associates with a Maruti 800. This moniker is an iconic name in the Indian household. Even though it no longer exists, the millennials know the importance of this product. However, the last remaining 800s are being used by creative car shops for unbelievable modifications. Let us take a look at one such case in point.
Modified 2-door Convertible Maruti 800 Sportscar
This video stems from MAGNETO 11 on YouTube. The visuals showcase a vehicle, the origins of which are almost impossible to guess. At the front, there are retro styling elements like rectangular headlamps along with a distinct bonnet and bumper setup. Lower down, we see old fog lamps with a relatively simple bumper design. On the sides, the two-door configuration comes to the fore, along with striking alloy wheels. However, this is where one gets to experience the convertible body type.
The host demonstrates the manually-operated soft top to make it a sporty two-seater for those long highway rides, along with the frameless doors. I appreciate the use of attractive body graphics to ensure a unique appearance. At the rear, the taillamps have been borrowed from a Chevrolet Spark and the boot compartment is quite curvy. On the inside, the door panels have been transformed completely. There are only two seats and the Momo steering wheel gives it a rally car vibe. Other bits include an aftermarket music system, touchscreen display, AC, etc. The engine remains unchanged, which is a good thing to ensure reliability.
My View
I have reported tons of cases of people modifying their vehicles thoroughly. In fact, some car houses even create replicas of high-end sports cars from mass market automobiles. Clearly, this trend is on the rise and the modification houses have become more professional and capable of importing parts from all over the globe or creating some in-house. I shall keep an eye out for more such cases for our readers going forward.

Having seen countless modifications over the years, I can say this Maruti 800 convertible is a classic example of how far India’s custom car culture has evolved and sometimes, gone off the rails. While the execution is undeniably eye-catching, purists will find it hard to digest such a wild transformation of an iconic nameplate. That said, it also reflects the growing enthusiasm among younger modifiers who want to make a statement, even if it means pushing boundaries. Not everyone will love it, but it’s hard to ignore.
