Both these have a huge price overlap which makes them ideal candidates for a whole bunch of potential customers. The Magnite has recently received a facelift. Now it is even more feature-laden and bears slight alterations to the exterior and interior. However, the affordability factor is still its major attraction. On the other hand, the Tata Punch is an enticing vehicle which has been doing exceedingly well on the sales charts since its inception. Therefore, this comparison is going to be quite intriguing. India is a price-conscious market which is why the retail sticker of a car plays a crucial role in deciding its success. New 2024 Nissan Magnite vs Tata Punch – Specs and Mileage

This is the major point of differentiation between these two compelling propositions. The new Nissan Magnite retains the powertrain options from the outgoing model. Hence, we see a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine with and without a turbocharger. In the naturally aspirated guise, this mill churns out a familiar 71 hp and 96 Nm, while in the turbo variant, the power and torque outputs are 99 hp and 152 Nm (160 Nm with CVT), respectively. Performing the transmission duties is either a 5-speed manual, and an AMT or CVT automatic gearbox option. Hence, all sorts of customers can opt for the version that suits their needs the most. Finally, the official mileage figures are 20 km/l for the manual and 17.4 km/l for the CVT automatic.

On the other hand, the Tata Punch is available in a single 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine version with the option of going for the bi-fuel (Petrol + CNG) version. The power ranges from 73 PS / 103 Nm (CNG) to 88 PS / 115 Nm (petrol) of peak power and torque. With the CNG, buyers get a sole 5-speed manual gearbox, while in a regular petrol avatar, there is a 5-speed manual and an AMT gearbox to select between. The mileage figures for the AMT, and MT in petrol trims are 20.09 km/l and 18.8 km/l, respectively. This number shoots up to an impressive 26.99 km/kg with the CNG powertrain.

Design and Dimensions

The design and appearance of the two SUVs are quite distinct. On one hand, we have the new Nissan Magnite which is not a long departure from the outgoing model. At the front, a large grille area with sleek chrome elements flanking it. Apart from that, the sleek LED headlamp cluster with integrated LED DRLs lend a modern appearance. I particularly like the skid plate section which elevates the rugged characteristics of the SUV. On the sides is where one gets to witness the elegant alloy wheels with black side pillars, sturdy side body claddings, stylish 16-inch alloy wheels, and a black roof. At the rear, there are clear-lens M-shaped signature LED taillamps and a sporty bumper.

On the other hand, the Tata Punch also boasts a modern design philosophy. The front fascia gets a sleek LED DRLs section on the bonnet connected by a chrome belt. The main headlamp cluster is situated on the extreme edges of the bumper. Also, I like the black bumper which imposes that sporty presence. On the edges, you will find compact fog lamps. The side section contains the squarish wheel arches and elegant alloy wheels. Also, the black side pillars and faux roof rails elevate its SUV-ish demeanour. At the rear, the compact LED taillamps, a roof-mounted spoiler and a solid bumper complete the overall look. All in all, both these SUVs have their appeal.

My View

It is not easy to choose between these two compelling propositions. However, there will be distinction customers for these. For instance, if you want to experiment with a relatively new brand and a slightly bigger SUV, going for the new 2024 Nissan Magnite makes a lot of sense. It does most things right and is a great product with the latest tech and convenience amenities, as well as a potent turbo petrol engine. On the other hand, if you want to go with an established brand and an imposing little SUV which boasts a full 5-star safety rating at the NCAP, then you should buy the Tata Punch. I would encourage our readers to experience these cars in the flesh at your nearest showrooms to make up your minds.
