Moving down the sides reveals the extended length and the addition of rear doors. There is a solid side step to enhance the ingress and egress characteristics for the passengers. Apart from that, it retains the boxy silhouette with 18-inch alloy wheels. At the rear, there is a bootlid-mounted spare tyre and the LED taillamps bear the same design pattern as the 3-door version. It even gets a similar bumper which looks tough. All in all, most elements will resemble the existing 3-door model but the length is increased considerably.

This looks like a lower version of the 5-door Thar. Hence, there is a tiny touchscreen infotainment display, whereas we have seen in earlier spy images that the 5-door model will get an even larger display than the 3-door model. Similarly, the dashboard textures and cabin layout bear resemblance with the 3-door Thar. However, we know that the 5-door model will have slight differences in the cabin to set it apart from the current model. In this video, there is a central armrest, steering-mounted controls, physical buttons for HVAC, a similar AC vent design, a grab handle on the passenger side, a different material for the roof, and more.

Specs
Since the 5-door Thar will be based on the same platform as the Scorpio N, it’s likely to offer similar engine choices. The Mahindra Scorpio N offers two types of engines – a 2.2-litre turbo diesel and a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine. These engines have different power outputs, ranging from 132 PS (Diesel), 175 PS (Diesel) to 200 PS (Petrol), with specific peak torque figures – 300 Nm (Diesel), 400 Nm (Diesel), and 380 Nm (Petrol), respectively. Buyers can choose between a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic transmission. Moreover, the higher-end models come with the convenience of a 4×4 setup (4XPLOR), significantly improving the vehicle’s off-road capabilities. We anticipate that all these features will also be available in the 5-door Thar.

Author’s Note
The current 3-door Thar has a problem with its small cabin space, which makes it less practical. To solve this, the upcoming 5-door model has a longer wheelbase, making it much better for bigger families and easier to get into. This change especially helps with more legroom in the back and a bigger boot space. People are excited to see how customers react to the roomier Thar. Since the 5-door Jimny did well, there’s interest in whether the 5-door Mahindra Thar can also be a hit in the market.
