To rival the sporty iterations of its rivals, Honda has introduced a new variant of its famed City mid-size sedan
The new Honda City Sport has been launched in India. Starting at a price of Rs 14.89 lakh, ex-showroom, it sits above the entry-level V trim. Also, a key aspect to remember is that it is available with a CVT automatic gearbox. Also, it will be on offer in limited numbers. City is among the most successful sedans in this category in India. It has been on sale for over 2 decades now. Over the years, its demand has been strong despite worthy new rivals, particularly in the last couple of years. With this new sporty avatar, the Japanese auto giant aims to attract driving enthusiasts.
New Honda City Sport Launched
Now, while the overall design remains identical to the regular Honda City, the City Sport embodies some aesthetic highlights. These include things like 3 colour options – Radiant Red Metallic, Platinum White Pearl and Meteoroid Grey Metallic, a sporty black grille, black trunk lip spoiler at the rear, glossy black shark fin antenna, multi-spoke sporty grey alloy wheels, black ORVMs and an exclusive Sport emblem. These tiny customizations elevate the overall road presence of the sedan. Moreover, these are enough to set it apart from the regular City, which doesn’t get these bold black elements.
On the inside, it gets all the features and tech, which is there in the mid-spec version of the regular model. However, there are a few significant changes. For instance, the premium leather black seats and plush soft door inserts, contrasting red stitch pattern on the seats, door inserts and steering wheel, black cabin, black roof lining and pillars, 7-colour rhythmic ambient light, sporty dark red dash garnish and glossy black AC vents accentuate the sportiness inside the cabin. That is quite common among sporty variants of any car.
Specs
Note that there is a single powertrain option across the lineup of the Honda City in India (except for the hybrid mill). This is the familiar 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine, which is now E20 compatible. It generates a decent 121 PS and 145 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. There are options of choosing between either a 6-speed manual or a CVT automatic gearbox (with City Sport). With the latter, the claimed fuel efficiency is an impressive 18.4 km/l. Apart from that, it continues to get the Honda SENSING ADAS active safety tech to pamper the occupants. Let us see how popular this new trim gets with the potential buyers.
