The Indian giant announced some prominent news regarding the future of Formula E and how it has massive plans for this space

The new Mahindra M12 Electric Formula E was unveiled at the Scream Electric event in Bengaluru. It was just one of many key announcements made by Mahindra for the future. The Indian car brand has been in this space since 2014. Its introduction with the Formula E season was the 2014-15 season. In the last 11 years, the company has grown leaps and bounds to emerge as one of the key players in this space. In fact, Mahindra said that it will become a manufacturer for the GEN4 era of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, which starts from the 2026-27 season.

New Mahindra M12 Electric Formula E Car Unveiled

Mahindra Racing has confirmed that it will continue in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship as a manufacturer for the upcoming GEN4 era. This new phase of the championship will begin in the 2026–27 season. The announcement was made in India during the launch of the team’s new M12Electro race car. Mahindra has been part of Formula E since the series began in 2013. It was also the first OEM to commit to the championship. Over the past 12 years, the team has built a strong presence with five E-Prix wins, 29 podiums, 11 pole positions and more than 1,000 points.

The decision to stay on until at least 2030 follows a period of significant improvement for the team. Under CEO and Team Principal Frederic Bertrand, Mahindra Racing has moved from the back of the field to becoming a regular podium challenger. The M11Electro played a key role in this rise, helping drivers Nyck de Vries and Edoardo Mortara secure five podiums in Season 11 and finish fourth in the championship. The newly revealed M12Electro will take this progress forward. The team aims to stay in the top five and fight consistently for podium finishes this season.

The GEN4 race car will bring major performance updates. It will deliver 450 kW of peak race power and a 600 kW ATTACK MODE for stronger overtakes. Regenerative braking will increase to 700 kW, and the battery will support up to 55 kWh of usable energy. The cars will also feature two different aerodynamic setups for qualifying and racing. All construction materials will be fully recyclable, strengthening Formula E’s sustainability mission. Mahindra Racing continues to pair technical progress with strong environmental goals. It was the first Formula E team to earn the FIA’s Three-Star Accreditation. Its “Planet Positive” programme focuses on supporting communities, promoting sustainable growth and encouraging climate-positive action.

My View

This event showcased Mahindra’s growing prominence in the world of Formula E. It is an occasion of immense pride for Indians to see the indigenous brand performing on the global stage, whether in terms of competing in the race or manufacturing. I shall keep an eye out for more details in this regard in the times to come.

As someone who has watched Mahindra’s motorsport journey from its early days, the M12Electro marks a clear signal of intent. Mahindra isn’t just participating in Formula E anymore, it’s positioning itself as a long-term technological force as the GEN4 era approaches. This commitment aligns perfectly with the growing EV momentum back home, proving that Indian manufacturers can shape the global motorsport narrative just as confidently as international giants. It’s a moment of genuine pride and a reminder of how far our homegrown brands have come.
