The electric iteration of the iconic off-roading SUV has been all the buzz in our market for the past few weeks
The new Mahindra Thar Electric is expected to make its debut in production guise at the upcoming Freedom_NU event in Mumbai on August 15. We know that Mahindra conducts an Independence Day event each year, where it showcases its cutting-edge technologies, new products, concepts, etc. This time around, it has teased four new concepts to mark its future portfolio. These are Vision.S, Vision.T, Vision.X and Vision.SXT. These include new products with distinct characteristics. For now, let us glance at what we can expect from the electric Thar.
Mahindra Thar Electric To Debut On August 15
There are a few images of what the production-spec Mahindra Thar Electric could look like based on the concept showcased in South Africa a couple of years ago. Going by the teaser, the Vision.T seems to be the closest to what the Thar Electric would embody. This includes boxy silhouette, rugged exterior, upright stance, modern fascia and an imposing road presence. These are some traits which we also associate with the existing Thar. In essence, it is highly unlikely that the DNA of the Thar will change even in the electric guise.
Talking more specifically, the concept model demonstrated a rather modern and futuristic appearance with things like square headlamps with LED DRLs, a compact grille section, a sturdy bumper, an upright bonnet and a hardcore off-roading appearance. Moving down the sides reveals massive wheel arches, adventurous body claddings, elegant alloy wheels with off-roading tyres, square windows, etc. Ultimately, the tail end contains styling elements much similar to the iconic Land Rover Defender with a boxy silhouette and an upright tail gate. More details will emerge soon.
My View
The upcoming Freedom_NU event is shaping up to be an unmissable occasion for Mahindra fans not just in India, but across the globe. In recent years, we have seen the Indian auto giant flourish in markets like Australia and South Africa. With its electric range, I am certain that the global markets will have to sit up and take notice. We have already seen the initial interest in the existing EVs from Mahindra in India and the international media. Let us see how things pan out.
