Mahindra XUV 3XO
Since the Mahindra XUV 3XO is the latest entrant into this segment, we shall commence this section by looking at its powertrain options. Interestingly, the Indian auto giant has carried on with the engine and gearbox options available on the pre-facelift model. This includes a 1.2-litre turbo petrol mill which makes 110 hp and 200 Nm, the 1.2-litre direct injection turbo petrol which generates the best-in-segment 130 hp and 230 Nm and a 1.5-litre turbo diesel mill which churns out a healthy 115 hp and 300 Nm of peak power and torque. The petrol mills can be had with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed AISIN-sourced automatic transmission. On the other hand, the buyers of diesel variants can choose between a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed AMT AutoShift gearbox. The more powerful turbo petrol powertrain boasts an impressive mileage of 20.1 kmpl.
Hyundai Venue
The Hyundai Venue comes with multiple powertrain options to cater to the needs of various customers as well. There are two petrol engines (one naturally aspirated and one turbocharged) and a diesel mill. These include a 1.2-litre petrol engine good for a familiar 82 hp and 114 Nm, a 1.5-litre diesel engine churning out a decent 115 PS and 250 Nm and a potent 1.0-litre turbo petrol mill producing a respectable 120 hp and 172 Nm of peak power and torque. The list of transmission options with the Venue is extensive. There are a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual to a 7-speed DCT automatic transmission options on offer. Note that the diesel engine comes with just the manual gearbox. Hence, the XUV 3XO has an edge over the Venue in this department.

Our View
Choosing between these two can be a really tricky task. Both these have their distinct advantages and disadvantages. On one hand, we have the new XUV 3XO which comes with the latest bells and whistles. There are improvements in the boot space, it gets the most powerful engine in the segment, and it is the only one of the two SUVs here which gets an automatic transmission with the diesel mill and also has a better-priced base model. Hence, if you are willing to spend a few extra bucks for the top trims, going for the XUV 3XO makes a lot of sense.
On the other hand, the Venue is a popular product as well. It comes with all the modern amenities that a car owner could require. There are options of choosing between multiple potent powertrains. The top model is significantly better-priced than the XUV 3XO. Hence, if you want a compact SUV without burning a hole through your pocket, opting for the Venue is perfect. In any case, one can’t really go wrong with either of these compelling options.
