Maruti Dzire Bharat NCAP Safety Rating

The new-generation Dzire becomes the first Maruti Suzuki car in India to boast a full 5-star safety rating at NCAP

The new Maruti Dzire has been all the rage at the moment after it scored an impressive 5-star safety rating at the Global NCAP to become the 3rd-safest car in India. Dzire is already the highest-selling sedan in the country. It has been around since 2008. All these years, its appeal has kept on increasing and the demand is at an all-time high at the moment. In its current avatar, Maruti is offering it strictly for private usage, while the old-gen model will be available for commercial fleet operators. Let us glance at the details of the Bharat NCAP score.

New Maruti Dzire – 3rd-Safest Car in India

The compact sedan was able to secure 31.24 points out of 34 in the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) section. This includes 13.239 points in the Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test, and 16 points in the Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test This is third only to Tata Safari/Harrier (33.05 points) and Tata Nexon (32.22 points). For reference, the VW Virtus and Skoda Slavia bagged 29.71 points, while the Skoda Kushaq and VW Taigun got 29.64 points. Finally, this score is 29.25 points for the Mahindra Scorpio N and 28.18 points for the Hyundai Verna. Note that all these cars are 5-star rated in the AOP category. Hence, the Dzire sits at the third position, which is mighty impressive.

The new Maruti Dzire shares the powertrain options with the latest Swift. This means that it gets a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder Z12E naturally aspirated petrol engine with mild hybrid technology which generates a healthy 82 PS and 112 Nm of peak power and torque. Performing transmission duties is a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox. This engine is also available with a CNG mill which is good for a decent 70 PS and 102 Nm of peak power and torque. The mileage figures are 24.79 km/l with the manual, 25.71 km/l with the AMT and 33.73 km/kg with the CNG. To get your hands on one, you need to shell out anywhere between Rs 6.79 lakh and Rs 10.14 lakh, ex-showroom.

My View

We know that new-age car buyers are extremely particular about the safety ratings of their cars. In this era, it is imperative for any car to boast high safety ratings. Maruti Dzire has just achieved this incredible feat in time. I am sure that this will have a lasting impact on its sales, demand and overall success. That is interesting since it was already the highest-selling sedan in India ever. It will be critical to see how this impacts the sales of its rivals going forward.
