Digital automobile artists have a knack for coming up with mouth-watering iterations of everyday cars
I recently encountered a rather impressive virtual rendition of the new Maruti Swift concept with a widebody kit. Swift has been an incredibly popular car in India. First launched back in 2005, I have never seen the demand for the famed hatchback drop. Even after 20 years and 4 generations, customers get drawn towards this moniker strongly. To be fair, the Indo-Japanese car marque has kept it updated with regular changes to keep the buyers interested. No wonder even the digital automobile artists use it as a blank canvas to demonstrate their creativity.
New Maruti Swift Concept with Widebody Kit
This rendition has been conceptualized by abin_designs_511 on Instagram. I find the front three-quarters of this illustration quite attractive. There are striking LED DRLs housed inside the LED headlamp units, while a new round LED DRL setup has been installed on the broad grille. Down below, we see a sporty bumper with black elements to accentuate its road presence. On the sides, the widebody kit and low-slung stance come to the fore. The fenders look butch, while the sporty black alloy wheels with red brake calipers complete the bagged appearance.
Furthermore, the black side pillars, black ORVMs, a massive side skirting, along with aerodynamic elements towards the rear section, ensure a thorough diversion from the standard design. Finally, we briefly get a sneak peek into the tail end with a colossal roof-mounted spoiler. The extended tail section lends the hatchback a unique character, something rally cars carry. I have been reporting about such digital concepts for years now. Somehow, these never cease to amaze and stimulate me.
My View
While these modifications look great virtually or on the drawing boards, we can never expect such iterations to go into production for various reasons. Firstly, the bagged stance is highly impractical. This is particularly true for the Indian road conditions. Secondly, without the limitations of physicality, the designers can let their imagination run wild. However, the real-life implementation and engineering is a whole other world altogether. That is the reason why we don’t see such cars on the roads. Finally, if someone really insists, they can borrow ideas from such concepts and apply to their cars. Just be careful that most car modifications are illegal in India.

Having covered the Indian auto scene for over 15 years, I’ve seen how the Swift continues to enjoy a sweet spot amongst enthusiasts. This widebody concept may never hit the roads, but it reflects how iconic designs spark imagination. As someone who’s reported on dozens of such renders, I still find them refreshing and creatively liberating.
