The Skoda Kushaq Onyx has just been launched with an automatic transmission option. That makes it the most affordable automatic in the segment. Kushaq has been a key product for the Czech carmaker to rejuvenate its sales and footprint in India. It was the first product under VW Group’s India 2.0 strategy which included a heavily localized MQB A0 IN platform. This platform spawned three more vehicles from the VW Group including Skoda Slavia, VW Taigun and VW Virtus. For now, let us take a look at the details of the Skoda Kushaq Onyx with an automatic gearbox.
Skoda Kushaq Onyx Automatic
This Onyx trim of the Skoda Kushaq is available solely with the 1.0-litre TSI engine. This engine now pairs with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. As a result, it becomes a high-value option for customers looking for the convenience of an automatic gearbox without breaking the bank. With this AT trim, the buyers now get Hill Hold Control, Paddle Shifter and 6 airbags as standard. This variant has a price tag of Rs 13.49 lakh, ex-showroom. The top amenities with this Onyx trim include:
- Crystalline LED Headlamps with DRLs
- Fog Lamps with Static Cornering Function
- Rear Wiper with Defogger
- Tecton Wheel Covers
- ‘Onyx’ Badging in B-pillars
- 2-Spoke Multifunctional Leather-Wrapped Steering Wheel with Chrome Scroller
- Onyx-themed Cushions and Textile Mats
Speaking on this occasion, Petr Janeba, Brand Director, Skoda Auto India, said, “The Onyx variant has been a key addition in our line-up combining the value of the Active trim with features from the higher variants. This new Kushaq Onyx offering is in response to feedback from our customers, which points at a healthy demand for an automatic variant at a more accessible price point. In fact, our value proposition makes this Kushaq the most affordable automatic in its entire segment. Offering a hassle-free ownership experience, getting closer to our customers and constantly listening to our customers is our endeavour, and a key part of our growth strategy.”
Our View
I believe more and more people are opting for the convenience of automatic transmission these days. Hence, having a variant with that at a lower price point is a good strategy to spur demand. This is especially true for a segment this crowded. Therefore, I expect the sales of the Onyx trim of the Skoda Kushaq to rise going forward.
