A Suzuki Jimny Electric variant based on current model makes enough sense before the next-gen version arrives with a skateboard chassis and full electric hardware.

While the Suzuki Jimny could be India-bound in a 5-door avatar, its full-electric version isn’t yet on the anvil

Compared to many other Japanese carmakers, Suzuki is certainly late to the electrification party. In fact, Maruti Suzuki clearly has no intentions to jump into the electric bandwagon anywhere before 2025. Itโ€™s, however, focussed on bringing in a slew of new models, with of these being speculated to be a 5-door iteration of the Suzuki Jimny. Meanwhile, popular rendering artist, SRK, has come up with a neat digital illustration of the Suzuki Jimny Electric based on the current generation model.

An utter lack of an electric option is something that’s already been hurting Suzuki Motor Corp pretty bad in many established markets. The compact off-roader is even yet to receive a full-hybrid option and this is exactly why the Suzuki Jimny was discontinued from the European Union and replaced by a light commercial vehicle version under N1 legislation. You see, the Old Continent puts a penalty of 96 Euros per every extra gram of CO2 per vehicle above the 95 grams limit. Given that the Jimny produced 154 grams CO2 per kilometre under the WLTP cycle, it became a pretty expensive proposition. The CV version comes under the N1 legislation and that has saved it from being completely discontinued but the need of the hour is certainly an electric and/or a full-hybrid version.

Right now, there is absolutely no news of a full-electric version of Suzuki Jimny but the video we have above does help us easily imagine one. A EV variant of the current model could actually work until the next-gen model based on a skateboard chassis and full electric hardware is introduced around 2025. In line with the norms, the artist has made minor visual tweeks to the compact off-roader to pronounce its EV credentials.

The front-fascia features twin LED bars instead of the conventional round headlight while the signature grille has made way for a more conventional unit with horizontal slats. The bumper has been reworked, too, and now features a reworked skid plate along with updated foglamps. Finally, the alloy wheels have been replaced with new units more in line with the electric car look. Overall, we feel that the Jimny would look quite contemporary with the traditional EV touches.
