Tata Altroz

Just yesterday, we revealed to you the power figure of the upcoming Tata Altroz Turbo and now, we have come to know its going to available in four higher-spec trims – XT, XT (O), XZ and XZ (O) – of which the XT(O) is a brand new trim.

Tataโ€™s first product in the premium hatchback segment โ€“ the Altroz โ€“ is an extremely well rounded package that surely deserves more attention that it is getting. With stunning looks, great features and space, superb ride and handling balance and of course, a five-star safety rating, the Altroz is one of the most compelling products in its segment.ย There’s also a new turbo-petrol engine coming on the Altroz and that should really put things in favor for the Altroz. Yesterday, we revealed to you the power output for the Tata Altroz Turbo and now we have information about the variants it would be offered on.

Tata Altroz Turbo will come in four higher-spec variants - XT, XT (O), XZ and XZ (O).

As was speculated earlier, Tata Motors will offer the turbo-petrol engine only on the higher specs of the Altroz. The Tata Altroz Turbo will come in four variants – XT, XT (O), XZ and XZ (O). It’s interesting to note that Tata will introduce a new XT(O) variant with the Altroz Turbo as its not offered on the standard petrol and diesel versions of the Altroz. ย It wonโ€™t be offered in the lower-spec XE and XM variants. Here’s a look at the expected pricing of the Altroz Turbo for each of its variants.

Altroz NA PetrolAltroz Turbo Petrol (Expected)Altroz Diesel
XTRs 6.99 lakhRs 7.99 lakhRs 8.19 lakh
XT (O)—–Rs 8.19 lakh—–
XZRs 7.59 lakhRs 8.59 lakhRs 8.79 lakh
XZ (O)Rs 7.75 lakhRs 8.75 lakhRs 8.95 lakh

The Tata Altroz Turbo will use the 1.2L, three-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine from the Nexon, but here it has been tuned to produce 110PS of power, as compared to 120PS on the Nexon. Although we do not have the torque figure for the Altroz Turbo just yet, this engine produces 170Nm of torque in the Nexon. Considering that the torque figure will also be brought down, expect the Altroz Turbo to produce around 150-160Nm of torque. In terms of power, thatโ€™s a healthy step up of 25PS from the naturally aspirated petrol engine of the Altroz.

Another trick that could seriously jazz up the Altroz is the addition of a dual-clutch automatic transmission with the new turbo-petrol engine. There are reports that the Altroz turbo will use a DCT gearbox instead of the Nexonโ€™s 6-speed AMT. Currently, the Altroz is only offered with a 5-speed manual transmission for its 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines. Earlier spy shots of the Altroz Turbo suggest that it will be offered with a new blue body shade with โ€˜Turboโ€™ badging and it will most likely be offered in the top-spec XZ variants only.

With this new turbo-petrol engine, the Tata Altroz will be the most powerful hatchback in its segment, alongside the Volkswagen Polo 1.0L TSI. Both these cars produce 110PS of power, although the final torque figure on the Altroz Turbo still remains a mystery. For your reference, the Polo 1.0L TSi produces 175Nm of torque. Hyundai too will be launching the next-gen i20 with the 1.0L turbo-petrol engine but it remains to be seen the exact state of tune in which they offer the engine on the i20. Tata Motors could launch the turbocharged Altroz variants by around Diwali this year.
