Tata Curvv.ev Launched

Tata Curvv is a coupe SUV which comes in electric, petrol and diesel avatars to cater to a wide range of potential customers.

The much-awaited Tata Curvv has finally been launched in India. The coupe SUV will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara and more. Remember that only the electric version has been launched today. The ICE variants will launch on September 2. Bookings open on August 12 online and at showrooms and the test drive starts on August 14. With this, the Curvv becomes the second coupe SUV in our market in the relatively affordable segment after the Citroen Basalt. The Curvv will sit above the Nexon and below the Harrier in Tata’s lineup. It will be another vehicle with electric, petrol and diesel versions to cater to a wider range of potential customers. Let us take a look at the details of the coupe SUV.

Tata Curvv – Specs

Tata Curvv will be underpinned by the new ATLAS architecture which will also spawn new products. The coupe SUV comes in 2 petrol and 1 diesel powertrains. There is a new 1.2-litre GDi turbo petrol engine called Hyperion which generates a healthy 125 hp and 225 Nm (250 Nm transient torque on demand), a 1.2-litre turbo petrol which makes 118 hp and 170 Nm and a 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine called Kryojet, which outputs a decent 115 hp and 260 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. Tata Motors has also upgraded the DCT gearbox which can now be paired with any of these engines. The fourth-generation DCT gearbox ensures smooth gearshifts, efficient driving, and sporty performance. In addition, there will be a 6-speed manual transmission as well.

On the other hand, the Tata Curvv.ev will be offered in two trims – Curvv.ev 45 and Curvv.ev 55. The former boasts a 45 kWh battery pack, while the latter possesses a larger 55 kWh battery pack. Interestingly, the larger battery pack consists of Prismatic Cells which allow a driving range of 585 km as per ARAI on the MIDC P1 cycle. On the other hand, the claimed range with the smaller battery pack is 502 km. Tata Motors expects real-world driving range with these batteries to be 400-425 km and 330-350 km, respectively. Furthermore, the Indian auto giant claims that due to its build quality, it will be capable of scoring 5 stars at the Bharat NCAP. This is due to the use of 39% High Strength Steel by weight and 13% Advanced High Strength Steel by weight. Also, it has over 45% higher torsional stiffness compared to a typical mid-size SUV.

To aid the aerodynamics, there are tons of elements to ensure the least amount of resistance. These include coupe styling, wheel inserts, LRR tyres, aero curtains, powertrain under tray, flush door handles, and more. The most powerful version of the Curvv.ev develops a colossal 167 PS which enables a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of just 8.6 seconds. In terms of charging, the Tata Curvv.ev can juice up a range of around 150 km in just 15 minutes using a 70 kW DC fast charger. Going from 10% to 80% requires 40 minutes. The ground clearance is 190 mm and the water wading capacity is 450 mm.
