Tata Motors‘ new car offensive is far from over and after launching the Tiago, Hexa and Tigor, it is readying more new models for near future. The upcoming Maruti Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport adversary from Tata is almost ready for production and is likely to be available for purchase by this festive season. The Tata Nexon compact SUV will spearhead Tata Motors’ charge in the fast heating compact SUV market. Tata is expected to launch the Nexon around the third quarter of 2017 at a starting price of roughly Rs 6.50 lakh (ex showroom). Powering the Nexon petrol and Diesel engines that will offer a good mix of power and fuel mileage. The petrol models of the Nexon will come with a turbocharged version of the Tiago’s 1.2 L unit.The Diesel models, on the other hand, will boast a new 1.5 L engine. The Nexon’s design is based on the company’s latest design language. Akin to all modern Tata cars, the Nexon’s design will have – The Humanity Line, Diamond DLO and the Slingshot Line.

The new compact SUV from Tata is still a month or two away from us with the Tata Nexon India launch expected to happen in the third quarter of 2017. Only then will the manufacturer reveal the Tata Nexon price. The Nexon was released in almost production form at the Auto Expo in February. Tata Motors and its products have come to be associated with the taxi market, an issue the manufacturer desperately needs to address. They have been successful in doing so with the Zest and Tiago to some extent and new products such as the Nexon and Hexa should really help. Stay tuned to remain updated on Tata Nexon launch details.
Test mules have of the upcoming Nexon have been doing the rounds for a while now. A CarBlogIndia reader from Pune sent these spy shots to us recently. One of the test mules did not have the production spec headlamps. It could be a lower level trim that will get a standard halogen bulb setup instead of the projector units seen on the other model. Previously, a top-spec Nexon was spotted in the wild in Cherry Red colour and alloys identical to the ones we saw at the Auto Expo.

Currently, the Maruti Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport retail for about INR 7-10 lakhs for the diesel variants. Tata will target the same price bracket for the Nexon’s Diesel models, while the petrol models could sell for INR 6.5-9.5 lakhs. Tata has been aggressive with the pricing of most of its new products. We expect the Nexon to come with a very aggressive introductory price. Don’t be surprised to see the Nexon priced just under the Vitara Brezza.

Based on our estimates, this is what the Tata Nexon specifications sheet could look like. It will feature both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol variants will receive a turbocharged version of the Tiago’s 1.2 L unit. While the diesel variants will get a new 1.5 L engine. Both engines could be offered with an optional 5-speed AMT, but that might happen a few months after the official launch.

In terms of aesthetics, Tata is likely to offer the Nexon with a dual tone colour scheme, stylish alloys and a black-grey colour scheme for the interiors.
Tata Nexon Exterior Design Review
Keeping in with the manufacturer’s latest design language, the Nexon concept based compact SUV would have all the design elements of a modern Tata car. These comprise of – The Humanity Line, Diamond DLO and the Slingshot Line. Designers have also made use of ceramic finish appliques in the front bumper, window line and the at the back. The best part about the design is that it stays true to the concept that was showcased a few years back. Tata has stated that the looks will take precedence and that they will be targeting a younger demographic.
As evident from the spy shots on this page, the design remains largely identical to the concept that was present at the Auto Expo. While most of the bodywork is camouflaged, it is not difficult to figure that this particular example is finished in orange. Even the alloy wheel design remains the same. These shots reiterate Tata’s intentions of ensuring that looks are a big selling point of the Nexon compact SUV.
Tata Nexon Interior Design Review
The interiors are also nearly identical to the ones we saw in the concept. The rear seat space and headroom could be compromised as Tata aims to make a style statement with the Nexon. When launched, the Nexon will be unlike any other compact SUV on sale thanks to its coupe-like silhouette, dual tone colour scheme and the use of ceramic applique all around. The dashboard features a very Audi-like floating touchscreen. Bits like the steering wheel are shared with other Tata products. It would definitely be the car to buy if you want to stand out from the crowd.
Tata Nexon Engine & Transmission
Details on the upcoming model’s technical specs are scarce, but in all probability, the Nexon compact SUV would feature a 1.2 L, three-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that would belt out a peak power and torque of around 110 bhp and 170 Nm. This unit will be a turbocharged version of the 1.2 L Revotron engine that will power the upcoming Tiago hatchback. The diesel motor will be a new 1.5-litre unit which will churn out close to 110 bhp. Transmission options will include an AMT. This will make the Nexon the most powerful diesel compact SUV on sale in the country. Expect claimed Tata Nexon mileage to be around 19 kmpl for the Diesel variant.

Tata Nexon Geneva Edition
Tata Motors, along with the big unveil of their TaMo RACEMO sports cars, also showcased the Nexon Geneva Edition at GIMS 2017. The special edition basically reveals what the production spec Nexon will look like. There aren’t too many changes except for a red paint scheme complemented by red highlights in the cabin.
