Tata Tiago Bags Over 50,000 Bookings

Joining the Zest, the Bolt and the new Revotron engine in the list of Tata’s latest models for the Indian four-wheel market is a new compact car, which, when unveiled, was known as the ‘Zica’. Following the outbreak of the ‘Zika’ virus, Tata decided to rename the Zica to ‘Tiago’. The Tata Tiago seems to be a logical successor to the very successful, but now dated, Indica hatchback. Tata Motors took the wraps off the Tiago hatchback at a media event in Goa in December 2015. The Tiago was then showcased at the Auto Expo 2016. Tata finally launched the Tiago at an official event in Mumbai in early April, 2016. The Tata Tiago is doing pretty well on the sales charts.The Tiago has already garnered over 50,000 bookings. The Tiago has a waiting period of over 4 months on select models. Tata Motors now plans to launch the Tiago AMT in coming months. The Tata Tiago Petrol was launched at  Rs. 3.2 Lakhs. However, prices were later increased by Rs. 6000-8000.

Tata Tiago Waiting Period

The high demand for the Tiago has led to a fast-burgeoning waiting period. There’s a waiting period of upto 3 months for some models. The fully loaded XZ model is witnessing a really high demand. The entry-level XE model commands a waiting period of around 2 months. It does seem like Tata Motors has a winner here! No?

It maybe noted that the Tiago has garnered over 40,000 bookings since its market launch. There’s a high demand for Petrol XZ model. Powering the Tiago Petrol is a 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine with 85 PS of max. power. The Diesel model gets a 1.05-litre three-cylinder Diesel engine that makes 70 PS. The entry-level variant, XB, has the least waiting period. The base variant just gets AC and power steering.

Tata Tiago Specifications 

The Tata Tiago goes on sale with newly developed engines. The petrol variant of the upcoming car is powered by a 1.2-litre, three-pot Revotron engine with a maximum power of 84 bhp and a peak torque of 114 Nm. Claimed fuel efficiency of Tiago petrol is 23.84 kpl and that of the Tiago diesel is 27.28 kpl. The diesel variant, on the other hand, gets a new 1.05-litre, three-cylinder Revotorq engine with a maximum power of 69 bhp and peak torque of 140 Nm. Both the motors could get an automated manual transmission (AMT) at a later stage, but, for now, make do with a five-speed manual gearbox.

Tata Tiago Mileage

The Tiago is among the most fuel efficient cars in India. With a mileage figure of 23.84 KMPL for the Petrol model and 27.28 KMPL for the Diesel variant, the Tiago scores highly in terms of fuel efficiency. However, one needs to remember that the mileage figures shown above are achieved under controlled conditions and may vary under normal usage.

At the front end, the car gets wraparound headlamps. These are a major part of the all-new design language adopted by Tata. Overall, the exterior features crisp lines and the Tiago has to be the most handsome car from Tata yet. The front gets a neat-looking bumper with wide air-dam and chrome-plated foglamp enclosures. The very neatly executed clamshell hood adds some bulk to the car’s front-end design. The front-end plays an important role in making the car look a tad more premium.

The Tiago looks decent in side profile.It gets a striking belt-line and a discreet crease on its C-Pillar. This feature of the Tiago’s design has enabled the manufacturer to seamless integrate a boot for the Kite 5.You also get a pair of stylish ORVMs and blacked-out B Pillars. Unfortunately, the alloy wheels look boring

The rear-end design leaves us unimpressed. There is an uncanny resemblance to the new Ford Figo and the Hyundai Grand i10. This robs off some freshness. Among the highlights here are swept-back taillamps, a neatly sculpted boot-lid and a chunky rear-bumper.

Tata Tiago Interior Design

The interior of the Tiago is all-new. The cabin comes finished in all black with piano black highlights. The car will come with a short diameter three-spoke steering wheel that will get audio/telephony controls. Other details that can be observed are rectangular aircon vents, a 2-DIN audio system. rear defogger, rear wash/wipe, electrically adjustable ORVMs and tweeters on the A-pillars. Body coloured highlights for the AC vents is an interesting touch.

Tata Tiago is priced between INR 3.2 – 4.75 Lakhs for the petrol and INR 3.94 – 5.54 lakhs for the diesel. At this price point, theTiago will rival the likes of Alto K10, Chevrolet Beat, Maruti Wagon R, Maruti Celerio and the last gen Hyundai i10. Worth mentioning here is that the Tiago is an important car for Tata Motors. With the Bolt failing to attract small car buyers, it is now the Tiago that can finally push its manufacturer’s sales in the private car market. The Tiago will be joined by the Kite 5 Compact Sedan in a few months. The Kite 5 will be to the Tiago what the Indigo eCS is to the Indica.
