Tata Nexon is a sub-compact SUV which competes against Ford Ecosport, Mahindra XUV300, Maruti Brezza and the upcoming Hyundai Venue.

Tata Nexon has been spied recently in Ooty with camouflaged all over. The compact SUV in the spy shots resemble the ongoing Nexon with no design change at all. Earlier, it was reported that facelifted Nexon could follow the lead of Harrier and upcoming Altroz with the new Impact 2.0 Design philosophy.

However, if not the facelifted model, this test mule could be a BS-VI model of either the 1.5-litre Revotorq diesel motor or 1.2-litre Revotron petrol motor. Tata recently announced that it will stop the production of diesel cars in their smaller cars like Tiago, Tigor, Zest and Bolt.

Tata has not made an official statement regarding any launch of their BS-VI products but since various other car manufacturers are bringing in their BS-VI compliance engine, we expect this spied Nexon is a BS-VI compliance testing on roads.

Maruti, the largest car manufacturer in Indian market is the first to step up the game in bringing BS-VI compliance cars with Baleno and Alto800.

Tata Nexon sales ratio is equally driven with both petrol and diesel engines. We can expect that Tata wouldn’t discontinue the 1.5-litre diesel engine which generates 108 bhp of power with 260Nm of peak torque. It is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed automated manual transmission (AMT).

Tata Altroz is the upcoming premium hatchback which will be launched with a diesel engine first. It will carry the 1.5-litre diesel engine from Nexon. However, the power figures will be reduced to about 90bhp with 210Nm of torque. It will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

Several car manufacturers have acted to the BS-VI compliance norms like Maruti has officially said that they will rule out their diesel engines come April 2020. Ford has said that the manufacturer won’t stop the diesel engine production and will be bringing BS-VI compliance before the emission hits its clock.
