The popular sub-compact SUV has done immensely well on the sales charts ever since its launch in our market back in 2021
The Tata Punch facelift has been spotted testing yet again ahead of the launch in India in the coming weeks. People really took a liking to the Punch due to its diversified appeals. These include things like a 5-star safety rating, availability of new-age tech features, attractive and butch appearance and the options of choosing between all sorts of powertrains and transmissions. As a matter of fact, it has remained around the top of the highest-selling cars list for many months. Nevertheless, there are still some issues that we wish Tata Motors would resolve with the upcoming facelift.
Tata Punch Facelift Coming Soon
Going by the latest spy shots and the recent car launches from Tata Motors, we can expect a mini Harrier-like front fascia in the Punch facelift. That is going to be a huge factor in enticing new buyers. Hence, the facelift will carry an even more modern styling. On the inside, I believe there will be an addition of a few new features, which is something the potential buyers will truly appreciate. For now, let us glance at what could improve in the facelift version.
- CNG Powertrain – We know that the Punch CNG comes with a dual-cylinder technology, which liberates a massive boot space, enhancing its practicality. However, while the petrol-powered Tata Punch offers a decent performance, I must mention that the CNG variant feels quite underpowered and sluggish. The problem further exacerbates on uphill slopes, making mountain journeys quite challenging. I hope that Tata Motors looks into this aspect and comes up with a reasonable solution.
- AMT Gearbox – Secondly, the AMT gearbox of the Tata Punch lacks smooth operation. This is particularly frustrating when compared to the AMTs from Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai. Therefore, I would love to see the Indian automobile giant correct this and offer the buyers a great experience with the AMT versions of its popular cars.
- NVH – Now, we know that the Tata Punch comes with a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder mill, which also powers other Tata cars. However, the inherent vibrations associated with 3-cylinder mills are specifically apparent in the Punch. In my experience, that slightly affects the driving experience negatively. In this regard, I would love to see the cabin get more insulation so that the NVH levels are controlled.
- Quality Control – Over the last few years, we have experienced inconsistencies in fit and finish in many Tata cars. This includes panel gaps and slightly flimsy components inside the cabin. I must say that it is not terrible, but since the Indian car marque has a great opportunity with this facelift, it might as well address this problem.
- Poor Aftersales Experience – Finally, over the years, many customers have reported a lack of professional customer experience. This is applicable to regular service, as well as repair work. In fact, a few dealerships have also been in the news for bad behaviour. This is one aspect that Tata Motors absolutely must look into since it is directly linked to the image of the brand. These are the top changes I would love to see in the upcoming Tata Punch facelift.

The Tata Punch has carved a solid space for itself in the market, but for it to maintain that momentum, addressing these pain points will be crucial. While the facelift’s updated design will surely attract new buyers, what will truly matter is how much Tata improves refinement, AMT smoothness, and overall ownership experience. Having tracked Tata closely over the years, I can say the brand is at a point where incremental improvements can make a massive difference in long-term perception. If Tata gets this right, the Punch facelift could easily strengthen its position as a segment leader.
