The second-from-base trim of the Tata Safari, Smart (O), has been detailed in this video. Safari is the flagship SUV from the Indian automobile giant. In its latest avatar, the SUV comes with a modern equipment list, convenience features, safety prowess and a powerful engine. Its direct rival is the Mahindra XUV700. While these SUVs offer some of the top amenities to the customers, it would be interesting to see what this second-base model gets. That is exactly what we are here to find out in this post.
Tata Safari Smart (O) Trim Detailed
This video comes from Ujjwal Saxena on YouTube. He has the Smart (O) trim with him. It is just Rs 50,000 more expensive than the base Smart model. At the front, it gets connected LED DRLs on the bonnet, a broad grille, LED projector headlamps, a rugged skid plate finished in silver, and a sporty bumper. On the sides, this trim gets 17-inch alloy wheels, all-four disc brakes, side body cladding, functional roof rails, black ORMVs, body-coloured door handles, and more. At the rear, it gets a high-mount brake lamp, connected LED taillamps, a sporty bumper, reflector lights on extreme edges of the bumper and a sturdy skid plate.

Despite this being the second-from-base trim, it comes with tons of usable features and amenities. This includes dual-tone door panels, electrically adjustable ORVMs, all four power windows, a D-shaped steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo at the centre, a physical key, a textured dashboard with piano black finish, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, 6 airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system, steering-mounted controls, MID instrument cluster, automatic climate control, plenty of storage spaces, armrest with storage space with USB charging ports, cabin lights, manual IRVMs, AC vents for third row, 60:40 second-row seats with sliding and reclining function, adjustable headrests and more.
Specs
Tata Motors offers the Safari with the familiar 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine which generates a healthy 170 PS and 350 Nm of peak power and torque. There are options of choosing between either a 6-speed manual or an automatic transmission. This Smart (O) trim only gets the former to keep costs in check. It has a retail sticker of Rs 16.69 lakh, ex-showroom which is a full Rs 50,000 higher than the base Smart variant. The next trim, Pure, commands a premium of Rs 1 lakh over the Smart (O). The prices go up to Rs 27.34 lakh, ex-showroom.
Author’s Note
The vlogger does a great job of highlighting the details of this model from the outside and inside. It is quite interesting to see that even the second-from-base model of the Safari comes with a lot of handy functions. People looking to save some bucks will be perfectly happy with this. In fact, it gets the same powertrain throughout the entire range. Hence, there will barely be any difference in driving dynamics.
