The Union Minister of Heavy Industries & Steel, Shri. H.D. Kumaraswamy recently took a test drive of the new Kia Carens Clavis EV. The vehicle was launched a few weeks ago. It is, essentially, the electric iteration of the Carens, but with modern elements. As per various news reports online, senior Kia officials, Bhimsen Gulabani, VP Customer Experience, and Atul Sood, Sr. VP – Sales and Marketing, were present at the Minister’s residence in Delhi with the Carens Clavis EV. The minister checked out the EV thoroughly. In fact, he also engaged with the new Tata Harrier EV. Nevertheless, the Korean auto giant shared the image of Kia officials with Shri. H.D. Kumaraswamy at his place in Delhi. Clearly, the minister might be interested in buying an electric car.

Talking about the powertrain, the electric SUV carries two IP67-certified battery pack options – 51.4 kWh and 42 kWh. The claimed ARAI-certified range is 490 km and 404 km on a single charge, respectively. The electric motor churns out a decent 171 PS and 135 PS of peak power, respectively, while the torque is an identical 255 Nm with both battery packs. Taking care of the charging duties is a 100 kW DC charger, which allows the battery to juice up from 10% to 80% in just 39 minutes. The prices range from Rs 17.99 lakh to Rs 24.49 lakh, ex-showroom.
