5-Door Mahindra Thar Spotted

5-Door Mahindra Thar Spotted

The 5-door model of the Mahindra Thar was spotted yet again with a heavy camouflage. After the arrival of the Jimny, the 5-door Thar is the most anticipated product in the country. Thar is a name synonymous with adventure off-roading. This niche market is slowly gaining a lot of popularity. Thar is the reason for that. More recently, Maruti Jimny has also captured this market segment quite impressively. Hence, the 5-door version of the Thar is set to gain more customers with its practicality and capabilities. Let us take a look at the details of this latest spotting.

These images come from sirishchandran on Instagram. From the outside, there are barely any changes noticeable. At the front, there are round headlamps with a massive grille, a rugged bumper with fog lamps, an almost upright front windshield, turn indicators on the extreme edges of the bonnet and bonnet clamps. On the sides, there are large alloy wheels, side steps for easier ingress and egress, a square silhouette and flaring wheel arches. The elongated wheelbase to accommodate a more generous boot and cabin becomes apparent from here. At the rear, there are LED taillamps, a sturdy bumper with reflector lights and a spare wheel mounted on the bootlid.

Specs

Although there haven’t been any official announcements from the Indian SUV manufacturer, it’s reasonable to anticipate that the 5-door version will likely feature similar powertrain options as the 3-door model. This would potentially include a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine and a 2.0-litre mStallion turbo petrol engine equipped with direct injection technology. However, considering that the 5-door variant is notably larger and heavier, these engines may undergo adjustments to compensate for the size difference. Furthermore, the 5-door version will share the same ladder-frame chassis as the Scorpio N and will offer both manual and automatic transmission choices. Additionally, it will be equipped with a low-range transfer case to enhance its 4ร—4 capabilities.

What We Think

The only major issue with the existing 3-door Thar is its lack of practicality due to low cabin space. The longer wheelbase will ensure that this problem is resolved. It will allow more buyers to experience the Thar even if they are large families. The rear legroom and boot compartment will get the most bump due to this 5-door configuration. Therefore, it will be interesting to see how well the customers receive the new Thar. The 5-door Jimny has proven to be an instant success. Let us see if the 5-door Mahindra Thar is able to replicate that too.
