VinFast VF 7 and VF 6 Launched

Originally published on 29.08.2025 – The VinFast VF 7 and VF 6 are slated to be launched in India on September 6, 2025. VinFast has officially opened its electric vehicle assembly plant at SIPCOT Industrial Park in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. Over the past few months, the company has shared major updates about its India plans. These cover showrooms, assembly units, service centres, supply chains, and customer support. It is clear that the automaker wants to turn India into a major hub for its business. For now, let us focus on the details of this new development.

VinFast VF 7 and VF 6 Launch on Sept 6

The VF 7 and VF 6 are two electric SUVs, which will mark VinFast’s entry into India. The VF 7 will most likely rival the Mahindra XEV 9e and Tata Harrier EV, while the smaller VF6 could challenge the likes of Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV and Tata Curvv EV. The former will carry a 70.8 kWh battery pack with a WLTP range of 450 km and 431 km in 2WD and 4WD configurations on a single charge, respectively. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive variant will produce 350 hp and 500 Nm, while the single-motor 2WD version will generate 204 hp.

On the other hand, the VF 6 will make do with a 59.6 kWh battery pack. In this case, the range (WLTP) is a healthy 480 km on a single charge. It powers an electric motor, which is positioned on the front axle to generate 204 hp of peak power. We know that the bookings have already been underway for a token amount of Rs 21,000 since July. On the inside, both these electric SUVs will bear a minimalist design along with the availability of the latest tech and convenience amenities. More details will emerge on September 6.

My View

VinFast will be entering one of the toughest automobile markets in the world. Indian customers want the absolute bang for their buck in terms of the cars they purchase. Hence, it will be interesting to see how well the customers embrace the new car marque. Also, the fact that VinFast will solely sell EVs can be challenging since the country is still in its infancy. Sure, the EV market is growing rapidly, still there is a lot of potential. Let us see how things shape up.
