Volkswagen India has finally come up with its Tiguan premium SUV. The new model rivals some formidable models like the Toyota Fortuner and goes on to become the most expensive VW on sale in India. The Tiguan is the same SUV that was on show at the Auto Expo 2016. Prices of the Tiguan start at Rs 27.98 Lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi) and the new model is available with only one Diesel engine option. Volkswagen Tiguan Diesel – Exterior Design
The Tiguan gets distinct Teutonic styling, which is a characteristic of most VW cars. The clean lines and neat surfaces give this model an aura of understated premiumness. At its front-end, the new VW SUV comes with a chrome grille that connects the two headlamps. Talking about the headlamps, the units hold all-LED fixtures with LED DRLs. The rear is characterized by boomerang-like LED tail lamps. The tail bears a typical Volkswagen look. Overall, the Tiguan’s doesn’t break any new grounds in terms of its visual appeal, but that doesn’t take away the fact that the Tiguan is every bit a modern-looking and stylish SUV.

The interior is a reflection of the exterior. As expected of a premium product from Volkswagen, quality levels are top notch. The centre console features a digital screen that can also double up as the display for navigation. The standard Tiguan does not come with a third row of seats.

The VW Tiguan Diesel rivals all SUVs on sale in India in the Rs 25-30 lakh price bracket. These include everything from a Hyundai Santa Fe to the Toyota Fortuner.
Volkswagen Tiguan Diesel India – Engine & Transmission
The Tiguan is available with just one Diesel engine option. This motor outputs 143 PS and 340 Nm and 150 HP & 340 Nm. A 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox comes as standard. Both the trim levels offer an All Wheel Drive system. Internationally, the Tiguan is also available with a 150 PS 1.4 TSI Petrol engine. India could get this engine at a later stage. For now, the new Volkswagen SUV comes with only one Diesel engine option.
