Yamaha MT-15 Spied

Ahead of the secretive launch on 21st January, Yamaha MT-15 naked motorcycle has been spotted testing in India. It will be positioned as a performance motorcycle.

Yamaha MT-15 was unveiled this year in Thailand. It borrows many styling bits from the FZ25, but is basicaly a naked version of the R15 V3. Both are performance oriented, sharing the same engine.

As the regular readers know that Yamaha India has sent out invites for a launch on 21st January. A lot of speculations have been going on for either the launch of Yamaha MT-15 or FZ V3.0. But here we have the first set of spy pics of the MT-15, testing in India.

The spotted test mule is covered under camouflage but looks like a proper MT series bike with the aggressive front portion and a sporty appeal. Globally, there are much bigger MT motorcycles.

If seen, the Yamaha MT-15 shares a lot of parts with R15. Both the motorcycles share conventional telescopic forks at the front, multi-spoke alloy wheels and the same chassis.

We expect the MT-15 to get split LED headlamps and the fully digital instrument cluster that comes in R15 V3.

While we compare the Indian-spec MT-15 to the Thailand version, there are some differences. The Thai-spec uses Upside-Down forks instead of the regular telescopic ones.

Changes in the rear-shock absorber, fuel tank, tail lamp portion and alloy wheels are seen in the spotted test mule.

Yamaha MT-15 will get R15’s 155cc liquid-cooled SOHC engine paired with the VVA system. The engine produces 19.3 BHP and 14.8 Nm of peak torque. It comes mated to a 6-speed transmission wit slip and assist clutch.

We expect the Yamaha MT-15 to be priced in a range similar to the Yamaha R15 V3. So, we expect a price tag of Rs 1.3 Lakhs (ex-showroom).
