Honda WRV vs Maruti S Cross

Honda has not tasted much success with its SUVs and crossovers in India thus far. With the launch of the WR-V, Honda will be hoping to turn things around. Based on the Jazz hatchback, the WRV is much more than just a hatch with heavy cladding and increased ground clearance. There is a substantial price overlap between the WRV diesel and 1.3 L Diesel variants of the Maruti S-Cross. Which means the S-Cross can be viewed as a potential rival to the WRV. Honda WRV vs Maruti S Cross Comparison – Exterior Design

The design of the WRV is based on the Jazz. While Honda has worked hard to give the WRV its own identity, there are certain bits that are unmistakably Jazz like. The side profile and the rear bear strong resemblance to the Jazz. The front end, however, looks quite different. It gets a flatter, more upright bonnet, which along with the increase in the ride height, give it a very SUV-like stance. It gets bigger 16-inch wheels and body cladding all around.

Like the WRV, the S-Cross also has the appearance of a jacked up hatchback. But since it has been designed that way from the ground up, it doesn’t look like its trying to hard. The Maruti S Cross is much bigger than the WRV in terms of size.

Honda WRV vs Maruti S Cross Comparison – Interior Design

The WRV’s dashboard has been lifted straight from the Jazz. It is completely identical save for a few minor differences. It gets Honda’s new Digipad touchscreen infotainment system. The gear knob is also new. And the WRV gets a bigger boot than the Jazz as well. In terms of design, the S-Cross’ cabin looks much neater. It also boasts better quality and fit and finish. The S-Cross is more spacious than the WR-V, but has a smaller boot.

Honda WRV vs Maruti S Cross Comparison – Verdict

In India, crossovers, especially the ones based on existing hatchbacks, haven’t been able to match more conventional compact SUVs in terms of popularity. Honda will be hoping the WR-V doesn’t meet the same fate. Based on the pricing of the WR-V, we feel spending extra on the Maruti S-Cross might just make a lot of sense. It will get you a bigger car and the backing of Maruti’s superb after sales and service.

  • Price – The Honda WR-V does not enjoy much of a price advantage over the Maruti S-Cross 1.3.
  • Design – Honda seems to have a done a good job of giving the WR-V a unique identity. However, it still looks like a jacked up hatchback. The S-Cross is much bigger in size.
  • Features – Apart from a sunroof on the WRV, there isn’t much that sets the two apart in terms of features.
  • Specifications – Honda’s 1.5 L Diesel is little more powerful than the 1.3 L unit that powers the S-Cross.

  1. If the buildup quality of s cross is good than wrv then obivously s cross is winner . Even in scross zeta model which approx 11 lacs have all features. One thing is more if Honda had introuced one more model between the exiting two models (s and vx) having auto climate control and display music system camera .then chances are wrv do better. In our area we can not drive a car opening sunroof somuch pollution and dust . So much traffic in ncr tht we need display camera and sensot.
