Ford Ikon, the popular sedan which served many ford admirers in India for more than a decade is finally going to retire. Ford India has stopped the production Ford Ikon. Ford is rather focusing on the new lineup of products like the Ford Fiesta Classic which is likely to be introduces before the end of year 2011 in India. Ford India has phased out Ford Ikon. The car has been too old and the sales had dropped drastically in the past some time because of tough competition from mid segment sedans including its own younger sibling the Ford Fiesta. Sedans like Maruti Swift Dzire, Volkswagen Vento, Hyundai Accent , upcoming Toyota Etios sedan were all posing threat to the existence of Ikon. With the sales as low as zero units in January 2011, it’s a strategically correct decision for Ford to move on to the new tomorrow with its new offerings.
