The Avenger series started sometime in 2005. The low-hung seating, fuel-efficient engine, old-school looks and the cheap pricing were the sweet spots of the bike. Years later, not much has changed with this bike. Now the Avenger comes in three variants – Street 180, Street 220 and Cruise 220. Our take on the 2018 Bajaj Avenger Street 180 is positive. The ‘Street’ version misses out on the heavy chrome inserts and gives us an all-black treatment. Blacked out alloys, body, exhaust muffler and the handlebars attract the rugged ‘street’ side of the buyer. It sports a 178cc DTS-i engine and offers around 48 KMPL of mileage. Features are still less on this cruiser, a typical Bajaj thing. They include a revised seat, a smaller cowl, LED DRLs, alloy wheels and a new grab rail. #Pro 1 – Stylish and Rugged looks
The cruiser gets a modern street look with a dual-tone colour scheme. It gets a considerable treatment of matte black on the body, exhaust and fenders. In the front, it gets matte black alloys with disc brakes and a large headlamp. The headlamps are roadster – shaped and come with LED DRLs. Inside the cowl, it gets a semi analogue speedometer with the fuel reading on the fuel tank. On the side of the tank, it gets an ‘Avenger’ logo with some light decals. On the rear side, it gets sporty pillion handles. The tail lights and indicators are still positioned the same. Unlike the other variants, it looks much more premium and stylish. Now, Avenger will be more appealing to the youth.
#Pro 2 – Engine
In comparison to its direct rival, 2018 Bajaj Avenger Street 180 offers much more power and mileage. The cruiser runs on a 180 CC engine that produces 15 BHP worth of power and 13.7 Nm worth of torque. It uses twin-spark 2 valve DTS-i engine that uses oil cooling system. The tuning of the engine is so good, that when you ride the bike over 100 KMPH, it does not vibrate or shake unnecessarily.
#Pro 3 – Mileage
In terms of mileage, it houses a 13 Litre fuel tank with 3.8 Litre reserve fuel capacity. It delivers a mileage of around 48 KMPL with a riding range of 585 Kms. Bajaj has a good name in the industry for its mileage delivery. Basically, it offers more power, more torque and better fuel efficiency than its competitors.
#Pro 4 – Pricing
This bike is currently the cheapest cruiser in India. The Bajaj Avenger street 180 costs Rs 85,498 (ex-showroom), which is quite cheap. Most of the people prefer sub-1 Lakhs bikes, mainly because they are sporty or classy looking commuters. So, a cruiser with a sporty body under Rs 1 Lakhs, is an attractive offer.
#Pro 5 – Low Hung Seating
Avenger comes with a seat height of 725 mm, which is low hung seating. Such seating is suitable for short height people or first-time riders. Also, it helps the rider to easily manoeuvre his bike through heavy traffic, as the balancing of this bike is good. The rear backrest is also decent, making it even more comfortable for the pillion.

#Con 1 – Lesser Features
Most of the bikes under the 1 Lakh segment, offer different top-of-the-end features like ABS, Fuel Injection, Digital Speedometer and much more. Avenger offers a semi-digital speedometer, front disc brake and LED DRLs. It does not even give a rear-disc brake or a tachometer. The bike cruises easily up to 110 KMPH, but if there is no rear disc brake, it might be difficult to control the bike when needed. On the other hand, the tachometer is used by a lot of people for better gear shifting by looking at it. Its competition, Intruder, offers way more features than Avenger. Avenger looks like a proper-old school cruiser with old technology. For someone who wants the looks, would prefer this but if someone wants features and different looks, then it is Intruder.
#Con 2 – Power Delivery At High RPM
The bike runs on a 180 CC engine that produces 15 BHP worth of power @ 8500 RPM and 13.7 Nm worth of torque @ 6500 RPM. If noticed, it produces power at such a high RPM. Usually, cruiser bikes offer maximum power at 5000 RPM itself.
#Con 3 – No Kick Start System
The bike comes only with self-start system and not the kickstart. Usually, self-start is preferred by people, but sometimes the spark plug or the ignition systems might not work. In such cases, the bike might not start, stranding the rider. There are various other hacks to start the engine, but not every rider can perform those hacks.
