Maruti to showcase the 2018 Suzuki Jimny at the 2018 Auto Expo
Maruti Suzuki introduced the first and the best mini-SUV, namely the Gypsy, back in 1985 and it still serves in the Indian Military. The Gypsy is also favoured by the motorsport enthusiasts as the mini-SUV remains to be the most capable off-roader in its segment with numerous modifications available to prep it for various rallies. 31 years later, Maruti Suzuki is planning to replace it with the next-generation Jimny and the same is set to be showcased as 2018 Suzuki Jimny at the next 2018 Auto Expo.

Just like the Gypsy, the Jimny will be available in various forms like two-door hard-top, two-door soft-top etc. The final version to enter production in India hasn’t been officially released yet but we expect the company to favor the former. The fourth generation Suzuki Jimny was supposed to debut at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show which rather has been pushed to the 2018 Geneva Motor Show in January. Based on the spy shots we have received, below is a pre-launch description of the upcoming 2018 Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
2018 Suzuki Jimny India Launch and Price
We expect the 2018 Maruti Suzuki Jimny to be showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo with the launch taking place sometime in late 2018 or early 2019. The expected price for the mini-SUV is around INR 6.5 lakh which is justified considering the Jimny is a bare-bones SUV with maximum functionality and minimum flare. Maruti Suzuki has already tried their hand with customizable options available on the Ignis and we expect the company to offer similar visual customization options on the upcoming 2018 Maruti Suzuki Jimny as well.
2018 Suzuki Jimny – Exterior
The 2018 Maruti Suzuki Jimny continues its boxy design somewhat similar to that of the Mercedes G-wagon. The exterior features squared-off proportions with circular headlight units and slated grille design identical to that of the current generation. The tail lamps retain their position in the rear bumper and the spare wheel will be mounted on the boot lid.
The spy shot above features black ORVMs, bumpers and door handle pointing towards this being the base variant. The two-door hard-top trim can be noticed in the spy shot but a 5-door version of the same is expected to follow. The 2018 Maruti Suzukiย Jimny will sport the same neo-retro look with the focus being more on utility thanย just visual appeal.
2018 Suzuki Jimny – Interior
The Jimny has been famous for a utilitarian interior with the entire focus on improving the overall practicality of the cabin. The mini-SUV offers the bare necessary functionality and comfort options to provide its passengers a raw feel that they expect for the Jimny. The top end trim of the 2018 Maruti Suzuki Jimny would offer a touchscreen infotainment system along with automatic climate-control. Customers can expect a lot of intelligent bits and pieces in terms of storage options and utilities.

Powering the 2018 Suzuki Jimny aka New Maruti Gypsy 2018 is theย M13A 1.3 litre 4-cylinder petrol VVT engine that outputs a maximum power ofย 84.2 PS at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 110 Nm at 4,100 rpm. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. A 4-speed automatic is optional. The new Gypsy offers shift-on-fly 4WD with a low-ratio 4WD-L setting. Safety features include dual front airbags, ABS, ESC, and seat-belts with pre-tensioners.
