Tata Motors has unveiled the much-awaited 7-seater Gravitas at the 2020 Auto Expo. The flagship SUV is based on the Harrier but is slightly longer and wider.

Tata Harrier came out as a very popular product in the mid-size SUV segment. Priced aggressively, it immediately became the best seller in the segment, shortly to be overtaken by MG Hector. Now, there’s a bigger Harrier a.k.a Tata Gravitas incoming this year.

Tata has now unveiled the 7-seater Gravitas SUV at the 2020 Auto Expo. It now replaces Harrier as Tata’s flagship product in the market. Gravitas is originally based on the Harrier itself but has minor highlights to differentiate itself. The overall design is similar to the recently launched 2020 BS6 Harrier.

Tata Gravitas is longer, wider and taller than the Harrier. It gets individual captain seats on the front two rows and a three-seater seat on the third. The roofline will be different and slightly taller to make in a roomy cabin for the third-row passengers.

Under the hood, the Gravitas gets the same FCA-sourced 2.0 Litre turbo-diesel engine. However, this engine now produces 170 BHP an 350 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual gearbox and finally, a 6-speed torque converter AT.

Features onboard include a panoramic sunroof, Harmon Kardon 7-inch touchscreen infotainment, semi-digital instrument console, Auto AC, Charging Ports for all the three rows, steering mounted audio controls, LED projector headlamps and Cruise Control.

Safety features onboard include traction control, six airbags, ABS with EBD, Hill Assist Control, Front and Rear Parking sensors, Rear Parking Camera, Speed Alert System And Front Passengers Seat Belt Reminder.

In the Indian market, Tata Gravitas will compete with the likes of Honda CR-V, Isuzu MU-X and Mahindra Alturas G4. It will also face indirect competition from the Mahindra XUV500 and top-end variants of Jeep Compass.
