The electric car segment has been expanding in India in recent years and we keep getting new products regularly
In this post, we take a look at the details of the upcoming electric cars at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. It is slated to take place from January 17 to January 22, 2025 in New Delhi. In the last couple of years, we have seen an exponential increase in the growth in the EV space. This is a result of both, sales, as well as the number of new models on offer. Carmakers are continuing to launch new EVs to enlarge their portfolios as EVs gain traction. With that, even the charging infrastructure is being developed rapidly. Let us take a look at the details of the next few EVs which will make it to the markets soon.
Upcoming Electric Cars
MG Cyberster
Next up, we have the MG Cyberster. It is an electric sports car which has already been launched in some international markets. It represents the best that MG has to offer in today’s age. I must admit the Cyberster is one of the most stunning-looking electric sports cars on sale today. At the front, the two-seater EV possesses elegant LED headlamps, a curvy bonnet, a sealed-off front section, aerodynamically optimized front fascia with an appropriate bumper and a compact splitter. The side section contains colossal 20-inch alloy wheels with scissor doors with electric openings, a two-door setup, and a sloping rear profile with a convertible rear section. At the rear, you would find an LED light bar connecting the LED taillamps, LED turn indicators with arrow signatures, and an attractive rear bumper with aero optimization.
On the inside, the cabin is ultra-modern with premium materials and the latest tech. This includes 2 Infotainment Screens and 1 Driver’s Instrument Cluster, Super-sport Mode for Racing, Powered Seats with Memory Function, Alcantara Leather, Retractable Roof, Ambient Lighting, Frameless Windows, Premium Bose Audio System, etc. In terms of specs, it gets a 77 kWh battery pack which sends power to electric motors for an all-wheel-drive configuration. The total output is 536 hp and 726 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. This allows a 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 3.2 seconds. We shall have to wait to see what specs the Indian-spec model bears although it might be similar.

MG Windsor EV
MG will also showcase its Windsor EV at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025. Note that the Windsor EV is already on sale in our market. Its main attraction is its industry-first Baas (Battery-as-a-Service) model which lets the customers buy the EV exclusively and rent the battery. For the Windsor EV, owners will need to pay a monthly rent to MG at Rs 3.5 per km. Hence, depending on the usage, the users can rent the battery. Also, MG is giving lifetime warranty with this plan. As a consequence, a huge expense is spared at the time of purchase. MG created a record for selling the highest number of EVs in a month when the Windsor EV was launched. That is a clear indication that customers loved the vehicle.
Kia EV6
Next up, we have the Kia EV6 which will be present at the upcoming auto expo. EV6 uses the same E-GMP architecture as other EVs from Hyundai and Kia. Note that it is already a famous product in India. However, the latest model in the international market bears design updates and a bigger battery pack. We are yet to receive that version. Hence, the Bharat Mobility Expo will be a key event to demonstrate the capabilities of the newest EV6. Not to mention, the insane list of in-cabin amenities will be carried forward with the addition of a few new features.
Kia EV9
The Korean auto giant will also be displaying its flagship electric SUV, the EV9 at the auto expo. Note that it was launched in our market only recently. Essentially, it is the best that Kia has to offer. Being a large 3-row electric SUV, it draws power from a mammoth 99.8 kWh battery pack which is good for 384 PS and 700 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. This allows a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of a mere 5.3 seconds, courtesy of a dual-motor AWD configuration. On the inside, there are all sorts of new-age tech and convenience functionalities to pamper the passengers.
Kia Carens EV
Kia also announced that the electric version of the Carens was in the pipeline for a while now. The ICE iteration of the Carens has been doing great on the sales charts for a while now. It offers a decent balance between practicality and convenience. However, the electric avatar of the SUV will be an appropriate product for the future mobility. At the moment, however, the details related to the EV are scarce. Perhaps, the Korean auto maker will reveal more information at the upcoming event in a few days.
Hyundai Creta EV
Let us commence with the Hyundai Creta EV. It is the electric iteration of the famous mid-size SUV. In the last few months, we have been able to catch glimpses of the EV in spy images. It is confirmed for the launch at the Bharat Auto Expo in January 2025. In any case, the spy videos showcase the Creta EV and take inspiration from its ICE counterpart with a few distinctions. This includes front and rear bumpers, front fascia, aero-optimized alloy wheels, and dedicated badges around the body. Therefore, there will be enough elements to distinguish it from the regular Creta.
On the inside, we will also witness most features and tech amenities from the existing Creta. This includes things like dual displays (one for the driver’s instrument cluster and one for infotainment), Level 2 ADAS, ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera, a premium sound system, and much more. However, the one thing which is still under wraps is the powertrain. We are yet to know the battery size, range, power and torque figures, etc. I am sure that we will be able to know all these details in the coming weeks.
2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has been updated for the model year 2025 for the international markets recently. However, India still gets the previous model. Therefore, we might finally see the new model at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025. The major change will be the new 4th-generation 84 kWh battery pack which will replace the 77 kWh unit. This will lead to a marginal increase in the range. Apart from that, the EV boasts tons of modern day amenities to pamper the occupants. Note that the Ioniq 5 is among the most popular products from the Korean car marque across many nations around the globe.
Hyundai Ioniq 9
The Korean auto giant will also showcase its Ioniq 9 electric SUV at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025. Note that it is the 3-row, 7-seat flagship large SUV from Hyundai. It was recently unveiled at the LA Auto Show 2024 late last year. It utilizes the brand’s modular E-GMP architecture which also underpins the Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6, Kia EV6 and Kia EV9. Being a colossal SUV, it wears a massive battery pack with a 110.3 kWh capacity. As per WLTP, we can expect a range of around 620 km on a single charge. That is mighty impressive. It supports 800-volt architecture along with a 350 kW DC ultra-fast charger which allows charging the battery from 10% to 80% in a mere 24 minutes. All other details will surface at the auto expo.
Maruti e Vitara
Just like the Creta EV, we even spotted the Maruti e Vitara testing on Indian roads a few weeks ago. We already know what the production spec will look like for the most part. On the outside, it will carry a modern appearance with rugged elements to lend it an imposing road presence. In fact, it will be available in 4WD configuration as well. In any case, the front section contains striking LED lighting with LED DRLs, a sturdy front fascia with a chunky bumper and fog lamps on the lower grille section. The side profile boasts 18-inch or 19-inch aero-designed alloy wheels with colossal and imposing wheel arches with tough cladding on them and on the door panels, black side pillars and C-pillar-mounted rear door handles. At the rear, it has a roof-mounted spoiler, connected LED taillamps via a light console, and a sporty bumper.
Similarly, the interior is full of modern-day features like a rectangular 2-spoke steering wheel with controls, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment display, stylish AC vents, physical controls for HVAC and multimedia, an electric sunroof, a floating centre console, wireless charging, 12-colour ambient lighting, drive modes, rear USB ports, retractable rear seats, 306-litre boot space. In terms of the specs, the e Vitara uses the new HEARTECT-e platform with two battery pack options – a 49 kWh or a 61 kWh. One can choose between 2WD and 4WD drivetrains. Suzuki has announced that the EV will make between 142 hp / 189 Nm to 172 hp / 189 Nm and 181 hp / 300 Nm (AWD) of peak power and torque, depending on the variant. It has Suzuki’s trademark ALLGRIP-e technology by distributing torque where it is needed the most. More details will surface at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025.
Tata Sierra EV
The next EV on this list of 5 upcoming electric cars in India at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 is the Tata Sierra EV. Now we have had glimpses of the Sierra EV at the Auto Expo events in the last couple of years. Tata Motors is definitely trying to gauge the response of potential customers and media experts. In fact, the bold design of the Sierra EV concept has attracted many eyeballs. At the front, it has a sleek front fascia with an LED light bar which runs the width of the SUV and culminates on either side in LED DRLs which double up as turn signals. Moreover, the main headlamp cluster is on the extreme edges of the bumper with a rugged skid plate underneath it. Moving down the sides unveils massive wheel arches with elegant alloy wheels, flush-fitting door handles, side body cladding and a boxy silhouette. More details will emerge in the coming weeks.
Tata Harrier EV and Safari EV
The other two electric SUVs from Tata Motors at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 are the Harrier EV and Safari EV. These two will be the electric counterparts of the ICE models. Note that these are the flagship models from the Indian auto giant. The camouflaged SUVs have been spotted testing on public roads for a few months now. While the exact specifications will be available at the auto expo, we expect them to get a battery pack between 60 kWh and 80 kWh. Also, there will be options to choose between a 2WD and a 4WD configuration. These will rival the Mahindra XEV 7e and XEV 9e directly. The expected price tag is around Rs 30 lakh.
Tata Altroz EV
The Tata Altroz EV has been rumoured to be launching for a long time now. We know that Tata Motors has adopted the technique of converting its ICE cars into EVs to leverage their popularity and keep the development costs low. That has worked brilliantly for the Indian auto giant. In fact, it is the largest EV maker in the country. Therefore, it makes sense to convert the Altroz into an electric car as well. Remember, there is no electric premium hatchback on sale in India at the moment. Altroz EV could certainly lead the way in that regard.

Mahindra XEV 7e
Then, we have the Mahindra XEV 7e on this list. It is the electric iteration of the existing XUV700. Recently, we came across leaked trademark images of the electric SUV which revealed a few key details. On the outside, most elements are similar to the XUV700. However, the front section contains a similar design pattern as the XEV 9e with a full-width LED light bar connecting the LED DRLs on either side with sharp LED headlamps located on the extreme edges. At the centre, there is a sealed-off section with a skid plate underneath the bumper. On the inside, it gets an XEV 9e-like triple display layout – one for the driver’s instrument cluster, one for infotainment and one for the passenger’s entertainment. Other bits include a two-spoke steering wheel with illumination and the latest connectivity and convenience gadgets.
Mahindra Thar.e
At the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, we shall also get a glimpse of the Mahindra Thar.e. Again, it will utilize Mahindra’s new scalable and modular INGLO architecture and ditch the ladder-on-frame configuration as has been the case for the longest time. It will lend unique off-roading capabilities to the electric Thar. We might see it get a 60 kWh or an 80 kWh battery pack which will power one and two electric motors. The latter will enable hardcore 4×4 capabilities to tackle any terrain. On the outside, the body will be rugged and modern without losing that imposing demeanour. However, the launch might take place by next year (2026).

The BE 6e is available with two battery pack options – 59 kWh and 79 kWh with ARAI-claimed range figures of 535 km and 682 km (550 km on WLTP), respectively. It makes exhilarating electric cars to rival the most powerful vehicles across the globe. Just for reference, the U9 carries a powertrain which results in a mind-boggling maximum power and torque figures of 1,300 hp and 1,680 Nm, respectively. If BYD showcases it at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025, I am certain that it will be a people-magnet.
Toyota Urban Cruiser EV
Toyota will also bring its Urban Cruiser EV to the massive automobile event of the year. Note that it will be Toyota’s version of the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara as a part of their joint venture.
