Demand For Maruti Diesel Cars High – Is It The BS-6 Effect?

As Maruti Suzuki is going to discontinue its diesel cars post-BS-6 norms, the demand for it has suddenly increased by a huge margin.

The upcoming BS-6 norms are scheduled to kick in by April 2020. Fearing the price hike in petrol and diesel cars, many buyers are flocking towards dealerships to buy BS-4 cars before they get costlier.

In the case of Maruti Suzuki, the demand for its diesel cars has suddenly increased. For the fact, we all know that Maruti is going to discontinue diesel cars post BS-6 norms. To clear the inventory in time, dealers are offering huge discounts on them.

The company states that the increasing demand for diesel cars has compelled them to increase their production capacity. The company states that they had to increase the production capacity of Vitara Brezza by 3,000 to 4,000 units for November and December.

Further, the company was supposed to slow down the production of some diesel cars by December itself but now has extended the deadline to January 2020. In the next three months, Maruti is planning to produce 30,000 diesel cars, which is 30-50% more than its earlier estimates.

Maruti is already halfway across its BS-6 transition, with Eight BS-6 models in the lineup. Soon, Maruti Vitara Brezza and S-Cross will get new petrol engines. As of now, both the cars only come with the 1.3 Litre DDiS diesel engine.

While there are reports suggesting that Maruti is actually considering keeping diesel engines, but there is no official word on it. The bigger Maruti cars like XL6, S-Cross and the Ciaz are likely to continue with diesel engines in future. Recently, the S-Cross was spied testing with its 1.6 Litre DDiS diesel engine.

Its not just Maruti, but Volkswagen and Renault have also decided to discontinue its diesel engines. Toyota, Mahindra and Tata are just cutting down the diesel variants on their entry-level models. As for Hyundai, it is going to continue with all its diesel engines.
