Now that you know which budget petrol cars give the best mileage, here’s a list of 5 petrol cars that give the lowest mileage figures.

With petrol cars you get a more refined drive whereas with diesel, you get better mileage. Petrol cars are comparatively cheaper to maintain than diesel cars. There are a lot of positive and negative points on both the sides and the list can go on.

A typical Indian buyer who is buying a budget car has to think about the mileage. With diesel cars it is a different thing but with more than 50% of Indian buyers still preferring petrol cars, maintaining high fuel efficiency is very important.

Here is a list of 5 petrol cars that are priced under Rs 10 Lakhs and offer the lowest mileage figures. However, one side negative has another side positive. That means these cars are more fun to drive than others. We have driven all the cars mentioned in the list and the mileage figures mentioned include claimed as well as what we achieved in real-world driving conditions.

So, here’s the list of least fuel-efficient cars that we have in the budget space:

Maruti WagonR 1.2 Litre

Maruti WagonR Long Term Review

The new generation WagonR got the bigger 1.2 Litre four-cylinder petrol engine, in addition to its humble 1.0 Litre three-cylinder. The bigger engine produces 83 PS and 113 Nm of peak torque. This makes WagonR the peppiest car in its class. However, with this, it loses out on mileage. If you want to focus on mileage and not power, we would suggest you to go with the 1.0 Litre engine.

  1. Claimed: 20 KMPL
  2. Real World Mileage – 14 KMPL
  3. Estimated Range – 500 Kms

Hyundai i20

2018 Hyundai Elite i20 Facelift Review 1

There is a misconception about Hyundai petrol cars being highly inefficient. We would like to clarify that. Yes, there are some cars that had lower mileage figures but the new Hyundai petrol engines have taken care of that as well. If you look at i10 Nios, it has a comparatively higher fuel-efficient petrol car.

  1. Claimed: 18.6 KMPL
  2. Real World Mileage – 12 KMPL
  3. Estimated Range – 500 Kms

Mahindra XUV 300

Mahindra XUV300

We haven’t tested this out properly but based on user reviews, XUV 300 might be the least fuel efficient compact SUV. Its diesel engine otherwise, it great on mileage figures. If you look on the other side, XUV 300 is one of the best driver’s compact SUV in the segment.

  1. Claimed: 17 KMPL
  2. Real-World Mileage – 11 KMPL
  3. Estimated Range – 450 to 500 Kms

Ford Freestyle

Ford Freestyle

Diesel Ford cars are known for decent mileage figures but high power figures. In the case of petrol, its just fun to drive and not cheap on the pockets. It gets a 1.2 Litre petrol engine that produces 99 BHP, making it one of the most powerful hatchbacks in India.

  1. Claimed: 19 KMPL
  2. Real World Mileage – 12 KMPL
  3. Estimated Range – 500 Kms

Tata Nexon

2020 BS6 Tata Nexon

The last one on the list is Tata Nexon. Great on driving but low on mileage. We have driven the manual as well as the AMT Nexon Petrol with latter offering more mileage. Although, Nexon diesel is more fun to drive and also more easy for the pockets.

  1. Claimed: 17.5 KMPL
  2. Real World Mileage – 12 KMPL
  3. Estimated Range – 500 Kms
