Vespa-946-Emporio-Armani

This is the Vespa 946 Emporio Armani, a limited edition model co-developed by Giorgio Armani and Piaggio, of which only three were allotted to India. One of them is on sale right now.

Did you even know that in 2016, Piaggio had launched a limited edition Vespa 946 Emporio Armani scooter in India for a price of Rs 12.04 lakhs, ex-showroom. Only 3 units were allotted for India and all were soon sold out. Now however, the scooter is again on sale with a massive drop in price of Rs 2 lakhs and can be had from SBK World, Pune. But why did this Vespa had such a ridiculous price tag in the first place?

This Vespa costed a whopping Rs 12 lakh when it was launched in India.

Well, the Vespa 946 was has been designed by the world-renowned fashion designer Emporio Armani. In fact, it was co-developed by Giorgio Armani and Piaggio, both of which are headquartered in Italy. The purpose was to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Giorgio Armani and the 130th anniversary of Piaggio Group. And this was certainly no regular Vespa. Its exclusivity starts right from its paint job which is based on a signature color palette from Armani. Although the scooter may look matte black in these pictures, it is actually a combination of grey with a hint of green, and that is only visible in specific light conditions. This Vespa gets an extreme galvanic treatment to give it the distinctive satin look.

Moving on, the Vespa 946 gets only a single hand crafted seat below which, there’s a beautifully crafted Emporio Armani moniker. This was the first time that Armani was ever collaborating with a two-wheeler brand and it certainly had to announce it well. That also makes it all the more exclusive. The Emporio Armani branding has been used at several other places as well including the headlamp closure. We really like how the seat has been designed and the carrier over the rear fender is delightfully retro. There are several air scoops all over the body work and it certainly adds to the flare. Notice how the rear turn indicators are integrated on the sides of the fender and the rear tail lamp is flush with the bodywork.

The engine casing too is made out of an aluminum block unlike your regular Vespa and it also comes with advanced electronic riding controls with fuel injection for smooth operation on the engine. Mechanical hardware is not so important on such a piece of art but still we would like to mention that this scooter gets 220mm dual disc brakes at the front, a single disc brake at the rear, dual-channel ABS and bespoke 12-inch alloy wheels. If you are wondering about the 946 in the name, then that harks back to the inception of the Vespa scooters, which was first built in 1946.

Out of the three Vespa 946 Emporio Armari that were allocated for India, only one is available for sale right now and the biggest surprise is that it has zero kilometers on the odometer. This is a 2016 manufactured model and it has never been used. For an asking price of Rs 10 lakh, its surely expensive but this is more of a collector’s item and a piece of automotive art. Th seller has already received a lot of inquiries about the scooter and some have even wanted to book it. You might want to hurry and contact SBK World, Pune immediately.
