The entry of BS6 emission norms saw the diesel and CVT variants of i20 being discontinued. Now, it only comes with a petrol engine and a manual gearbox. The new i20 will get all new engines, new gearbox options and tons of features upgrade. Its on-road testing is going on in the country and probably, in the festive season, we might hear something good about it.

The current Hyundai i20 comes with a 1.2 Litre four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 83 PS and 113 Nm of peak torque. Gearbox option now includes a 5-speed MT as standard fitment. The 1.4 Litre diesel engine that did its job on i20 was discontinued way before the BS6 norms came into action.

The upcoming i20 will continue with this 1.2 Litre petrol unit but get two more engines as well. One will be the new 1.0 Litre three-cylinder turbo motor and a 1.5 Litre diesel engine. The turbo unit will be capable of producing 100 PS and 172 Nm of peak torque, either paired with a 6-speed MT or a DCT. The diesel engine will be good for 100 PS and 240 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed MT.

Safety bits will continue to be dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors with a camera and possibly an addition of traction control and such.
