The electric vehicle segment in India has been growing rapidly and MG is a key player in this development
I recently got the opportunity to test drive the new MG Hector Tomahawk EV extensively and here are my thoughts about the large electric SUV. Note that the Tomahawk is available in PHEV and EV avatars. MG has been incredibly popular in our market in the EV space for a few years now. It has a wide range of products to suit the needs of all sorts of buyers. In addition to that, the BaaS program helps consumers get electric cars at a much lower price than otherwise. Hence, more people can jump onto the EV bandwagon. For now, let us take a look at all the details of the new MG Hector Tomahawk EV.
MG Hector Tomahawk EV Review – Exterior Styling
The MG Hector Tomahawk EV is a large SUV with an imposing demeanour. The Hector Tomahawk gets a modern and bold front-end design. At the front, it features a sleek LED headlamp setup with integrated dual LED DRL strips. Since it is an electric vehicle, the grille area is kept narrow, while the chunky bumper adds to its rugged appearance. From the side, the SUV gets blacked-out pillars, functional roof rails and a rising shoulder line that gives it a dynamic stance.
The side panels have a clean, uncluttered design without prominent creases. Elegant 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels sit within large, well-defined wheel arches, which are finished with rugged cladding to give the SUV a more adventurous look. Also, the red brake callipers offer it a rather sporty appearance. At the rear, the roof-mounted spoiler comes with an integrated high-mounted stop lamp. The split LED taillamps add a modern touch, while the sporty bumper and rugged skid plate further enhance its SUV character. Overall, the Hector Tomahawk has a distinctive and commanding presence on the road. Its dimensions are as follows:
| Dimensions (in mm.) | MG Hector Tomahawk EV |
| Length | 4,745 |
| Width | 2,130 (w/ mirrors) |
| Height | 1,770 |
| Wheelbase | 2,810 |

MG Hector Tomahawk EV Review – Interior, Features and Safety
As soon as one enters the cabin, the sheer size and space become apparent. It is immediately evident that the exterior dimensions are neatly translated to a large interior compartment. I experienced the soft-touch materials on the dashboard and some hard plastics on the lower parts. But that is something we see on a lot of vehicles. There are enough cubby holes and storage spaces inside the car and many tech and feel-good factors like the sunshades, wireless charging with a cooling station. However, the colossal 15.6-inch touchscreen display takes the centre stage, while the driver’s instrument cluster is a rather smaller 8.8-inch.
Nevertheless, the information displayed on it is crisp and decluttered. Also, the gesture-controlled powered boot operation is a handy convenience feature. One aspect I didn’t particularly like is the quality of the camera when the turn indicators are turned on. The overall image is quite grainy. Also, the placement is a bit intrusive, especially while using the maps. Apart from that, if you open the large panoramic sunroof, the light reflects on the screen, which makes reading things a bit difficult. Still, most other elements work seamlessly and are modern. Some of the major in-cabin attractions are:
- 15.6-inch Touchscreen Infotainment Unit
- Two-spoke Steering Wheel
- 8.8-inch Digital Instrument Cluster
- Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Dual-pane Panoramic Sunroof
- Ventilated Front Seats with Memory Function
- V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) Functions
- 256-colour Ambient Lighting
- Powered Tailgate
- V2V (Vehicle-to-Vehicle) Functions
- 6-way Adjustable Driver’s Seat
- 4-way Adjustable Passenger’s Seat
- Leatherette Door Panels
- 610-litre Boot Space
- 10-speaker Infinity Premium Audio System
- Rear Window Sunshades
- PM2.5 Air Filter
- i-SMART 3.0 Connected Car Tech
- Gen AI-powered Voice Assistant with 30+ Hinglish Commands
- Digital Bluetooth Key
- Jio-powered Services
- 6 Airbags
- Level 2 ADAS
- 360-degree Surround View HD Camera

MG Hector Tomahawk EV Review – Specs and Driving Impressions
As mentioned in the introduction, the MG Hector Tomahawk is available in PHEV and EV versions. The SUV is based on the new ADAPT architecture. Since I drove the EV avatar, we will be discussing the specs and performance of that model. It comes with a 69.2 kWh battery pack, which is good for a claimed range of 517 km on a single charge. However, I would argue that the real-world number would be in the vicinity of 350-400 km, depending on the driving style and environmental conditions. The charging capabilities are taken care of using a 90 kW DC fast charger.
In my drive, I was satisfied with the overall performance and acceleration. Note that for a large and heavy EV like the MG Hector Tomahawk EV, the straight-line pulling power is quite decent. Also, the ride quality is better than the rivals. I feel that the steering lacked feedback, but that is something we find in most EVs. Due to being bottom-heavy and body control is well managed and the stability is also impressive. Overall, the EV won’t disappoint regardless of whether you drive it on straight highways or twisty mountain roads. Also, there is ample space inside the cabin to fit an average family along with a lot of luggage.
| Specs | MG Hector Tomahawk EV |
| Powertrain | 69.2 kWh battery |
| Power | 204 PS |
| Torque | 310 Nm |
| Range | 517 km |
MG Hector Tomahawk EV Review – Price
The MG Hector Tomahawk EV starts at Rs 13.99 lakh, ex-showroom with BaaS and a battery rental of Rs 4.9 per km. Furthermore, the company is providing a lifetime warranty on the high-voltage battery along with a 3-year unlimited vehicle warranty, 3-year roadside assistance, 2-year labour-free service and an assured buyback program. Without the BaaS, the electric SUV ranges from Rs 19.49 lakh to Rs 23.49 lakh, ex-showroom. These are some competitive prices in comparison to the rivals. Hence, a lot of customers will be drawn towards it.
| Price (ex-sh.) | MG Hector Tomahawk EV |
| Excite 7-seater | Rs 19.49 lakh (Rs 13.99 lakh + Rs 4.9 per km battery rental with BaaS) |
| Exclusive 7-seater | Rs 22 lakh |
| Essence 7-seater | Rs 23.50 lakh |
| Essence 5-seater | Rs 23 lakh |

Editor’s Note
The MG Hector Tomahawk EV is an interesting addition to the growing electric SUV space, especially because it combines a large, spacious cabin with a fairly strong performance package. After spending time behind the wheel, I found the ride quality, stability and straight-line acceleration to be well suited to both highway cruising and everyday driving, while the spacious cabin makes it practical for families. However, the steering could offer more feedback, and the camera quality and screen visibility under certain conditions are areas MG could improve. With the BaaS option bringing down the entry price significantly, the Hector Tomahawk EV could attract buyers who want a large electric SUV without paying the full upfront battery cost. – Yatharth Chauhan, Managing Editor
