2021 ford figo automatic vs maruti swift amt

Amidst speculations of leaving India after talks with several carmakers for contract manufacturing deals fell through, Ford has finally launched the automatic variant of the Figo. The 2021 Ford Figo Automatic has gone on sale at a starting price of Rs 7.75 lakh (ex-showroom), which makes it almost Rs 75,000 costlier than the most affordable automatic variant of arch-rival Maruti Swift.

The 2021 Ford Figo Automatic is available in a price range of Rs 7.75 lakh to Rs 8.20 lakh (ex-showroom). In comparison, the AMT-equipped Maruti Swift retails in a price bracket of Rs 7.01 lakh to Rs 8.56 lakh (ex-showroom). Clearly, the AMT-equipped range of the Swift is more accessible but the top-spec version turns out to be costlier than the fully-loaded variant of the Figo Auto. It must be noted here that the AMT-equipped Swift is available in VXI, ZXI and ZXI Plus trims while the Figo AT is available in Titanium and Titanium Plus versions.

While the Maruti Swift has a clear price advantage over the Ford Figo AT owing to a lower base price, it should be kept in mind that the latter offers a more sophisticated transmission. Not only this, Figo’s motor also has a power advantage, at least on paper. The 1.2-litre Dragon motor offers 95hp compared to the 90hp that the K-series engine of the Swift offers. In real-world performance, however, it’s the Swift that triumphs with a more free-revving motor and a better power delivery. That said, we’re sure the automatic transmission of the Figo would have a more seamless operation as compared to the automated manual transmission of the Swift.

Both the cars offer features like a touchscreen infotainment unit but it’s only the Maruti Swift that offers Voice Command, 6 speakers, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Meanwhile, features like a push-button start/stop, automatic climate control, all four power windows, power folding ORVMs, rear defogger, auto headlamps and steering-mounted audio and telephone controls are available on both cars. The top-spec Ford Figo, however, offers as many as 6 airbags (vs 2 airbags on Swift) in spite of a lower retail price.
