The electric vehicle segment in India is set to witness some prominent new products very soon. The boost to the EV industry is provided by large-scale rapid development in this space.

Tata Nexon EV rivalling Mahindra XUV300 Electric is bound to make its entry into the Indian market within a couple of years. The electric version of the popular compact SUV has been spotted testing on the roads. Mahindra has showcased the concept model back in Auto Expo 2020. It received a lot of attraction from the people and industry experts alike. Now, the commencement of the production is nearing and the product is spotted doing test runs. Here are the details of the EV.

The images show the familiar silhouette of the regular XUV300 indicating that the exterior of the XUV300 Electric will not be all that different. The vehicle is heavily camouflaged but the split LED taillamps, roof-integrated spoiler, blacked-out A, B and C-pillars are clearly visible. Being a test mule, the alloy wheels are missing which is a common trend for test vehicles. It has steel rims. Understandably, there will be quite a few distinct inserts at various places to remind us of its eco-friendly nature. The interiors of the XUV300 Electric will most likely be similar to the current model on sale too. However, to differentiate from the ICE version, there might be some tweaks to the cabin layout or materials.

Specs

The Mahindra XUV300 Electric (or eXUV300 or XUV400 – the name is not final yet) will be based on the company’s dedicated MESMA 350 (Mahindra Electric Scalable and Modular Architecture) platform. The eXUV300 might feature a 40 kWh battery pack that will feed the electric motors to produce a healthy 130 hp. The expected driving range could be around 300 km on a single charge. The expected launch might be sometime in 2023.

The price may be around Rs 3 lakh higher than the current top trim when it launches. The direct rivals will include the likes of Tata Nexon EV. If Mahindra comes up with a long-range version the prices might go in the region of Kona Electric and MG ZS EV.
