honda city hybrid vs skoda slavia 1.5 dsg

Honda has unveiled the much-awaited City hybrid in India and we compare it with its rival in the mid-size sedan segment, the Skoda Slavia.

A comparison between the newly revealed Honda City Hybrid (e:HEV) and Skoda Slavia is warranted on account of them being rivals in the segment. However, it must be mentioned here that the City e:HEV will be the only hybrid in this space. It will have the self-charging mechanic for the Li-ion battery and is capable of driving in the pure EV mode too. Let us begin our Honda City Hybrid vs Skoda Slavia 1.5 DSG comparison-

Specs

The new City Hybrid has a unique powertrain configuration with a 1.5-litre 4 cylinder engine with Atkinson Cycle along with 2 electric motors. One of the motors is used as an integrated starter generator and the other motor is the traction motor that drives the wheels. The total output of the hybrid system is 126 PS and 253 Nm. This engine is mated to a sole e-CVT transmission. The City could be driven in three drive modes: EV Mode, Engine Mode and Hybrid Mode. The power and torque output is significantly enhanced compared to the current ICE model. The hybrid powertrain enables a fuel efficiency of a whopping 26.5 km/l which is, by far, the best in the segment.

On the other hand, the Skoda Slavia in its top trim comes with a 1.5-litre turbo petrol EVO engine that outputs 150 PS and 250 Nm of peak power and torque. This engine could be had with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG transmission. The Slavia clearly has an edge in terms of the specifications.

Design and Dimensions Comparison

In terms of the design, the City hybrid inherits almost all the elements from the ICE model but there are a few distinctions. This includes a blue halo around the Honda moniker at the front and rear, e:HEV badging at the rear and a functional diffuser beneath the rear bumper. Other bits include sleek LED headlamps with L-shaped LED DRLs, Z-shaped LED wraparound taillamps, stylish alloy wheels, and a thick chrome slab at the front.

The Slavia features a typical Skoda design language that incorporates the signature hexagonal chrome grille, shark creases all around, sleek LED headlamps with a crystalline pattern, LED DRLs, sporty bumper, and high ground clearance and LED taillamps. We have compared the dimensions of the two in the table below.

Dimensions (mm)Honda City HybridSkoda Slavia
Length4,5494,541
Width1,7481,752
Height 1,4891,507
Wheelbase2,6002,651

While the difference in length and width of the two sedans is not too significant, the Slavia is quite a bit taller and has a larger wheelbase. Hence, it’s the winner of our Honda City Hybrid vs Skoda Slavia 1.5 DSG comparison.

Interior and Features Comparison

The Honda City Hybrid features a black and beige interior theme. There are ADAS features which are called “Honda SENSING” functions that include Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Adaptive Cruise Control, Road Departure Mitigation (RDM), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) and Auto High-Beam. Apart from that, it also comes with 37 connected car tech features in addition to the already existing Alexa and OK Google.
