Jeep announcing the arrival of the 7-seat, Compass-derived Meridian warrants the comparison with the popular SUV in the segment, the Mahindra XUV700.

This post encapsulates a specs and design comparison between the Jeep Meridian and Mahindra XUV700. Jeep has announced that the Jeep Meridian will be launched around May and the deliveries will commence in June this year. Meridian is the 7-seat version of the already existing Compass but there will be enough changes above and under the hood to distinguish itself from the latter. Mahindra XUV700, on the other hand, has already garnered a ton of interest from the buyers on account of its class-leading leading features, premium cabin and powerful engines. Let us compare these two unique SUVs.

The teaser video of the Meridian reveals the sheer size and exterior design quite vividly. The front features a chrome wrapped slated grille, sleek LED headlamps with LED DRLs flanking the grille, Jeep lettering on the bonnet, projector fog lamps, chrome strip on the bumper, chunky squared wheel arches on the sides, long overhangs at the rear, upright stance, stylish alloy wheels, blacked side pillars, and Meridian written on the front door. At the rear, the slim LED taillamps are connected by a thick chrome slab, and the bumper is sporty with a skid plate distancing itself from the Compass. All in all, it will have enough modern elements to establish its own identity.

The XUV700 is a handsome looking SUV with aggressive styling and a familiar silhouette to the erstwhile XUV500. The front end has a massive LED headlamp cluster with C-shaped LED DRLs, and a large grille with vertical chrome slats, imposing road presence because of the SUV-ish dimensions and layout. The tail section is even more appealing with a carved out angular boot lid and sleek LED taillamps. The XUV700 is definitely the louder of the two in terms of appearance, while the Meridian is the understated one.

The details of the features on the Meridian are not revealed yet. But the cabin layout is visible in the video. It will retain most of Compass’s features and design but the dashboard features a brown material instead of the all-black theme of Compass. Other bits in the video clip include a digital instrument cluster, drive modes, large infotainment system, connected car tech functions, dual-zone climate control, premium audio system and much more.

The XUV700 has a light interior shade and materials that make it look like an SUV from a segment above. This includes things like a Panoramic Sunroof, AdrenoX Connected Car Tech System, Smartphone, Bluetooth Connectivity, Wireless Charging, 10.25-inch Dual Touchscreen Infotainment and Instrument Cluster, Alexa Virtual Assistant, 360-degree Camera, Sony 3D Surround Sound System, Auto Booster Headlights, Air Purifier, Smart Door Handles and much more.

The specific powertrains to be offered with the Meridian will be announced closer to the launch. However, it is most likely to retain the diesel engine which is offered in the Compass with a few tweaks to suit the 7-seat configuration. There will be a 4×4 drive system with plenty of hardware to tackle adventurous off-roading terrains which is the trademark of Jeep products. The XUV700, on the other hand, comes with the options of turbo petrol and diesel engines (with multiple configurations) and all-wheel-drive options.
