Although modern diesel vehicles don’t have too many cold start issues, it is always nice to actually experience a real-world scenario.

MG Hector in diesel manual configuration has been put to a cold start test in this latest video clip. Hector is a prominent mid-size SUV that has been overshadowed by the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Tata Harrier in our market. But a lot of people bought the Hector for the sheer connected features and internet connectivity it offered when it first launched in India. The road presence and dimensions it offered also attracted a lot of buyers.

The video is posted on YouTube and the owner mentions that this is a diesel manual variant. He finds himself in Kufri, Himachal Pradesh where the outside temperature is around -3 degrees. Also, the car has been parked in the snow for 3 days further adding to the challenges of starting it. As he enters that cabin, the owner is curious to see how many selfs the car would need to start. He puts the car in neutral and presses the start/stop button. To his surprise, the SUV started on the very first attempt. The thick snow is seen frozen on the windshield of the car. This is quite impressive to see that the car didn’t hesitate even a little bit despite being still covered in snow.

We must mention here that in modern cars, the technology has evolved such that the diesel vehicles are able to avoid the cold start problems in most cases. However, if you have the SUV parked in -20 degrees for a couple of days and try to switch it ON with snow on it, it might struggle. Hence, it can be concluded that the Hector would not give you trouble in relatively sensible cold temperatures.
