skoda kushaq slavia 10-inch vs 8-inch touchscreen infotainment

Skoda Kushaq and Slavia now come with 8-inch touchscreen display instead of the 10-inch unit available earlier.

Skoda India is now offering an 8.0-inch touchscreen unit on the new Slavia and Kushaq instead of the 10-inch unit

For the last few years, the auto industry has been struggling to deal with the ongoing pandemic and sem-conductor shortage. The global chip shortage has specifically caused a lot of production delays. As the pandemic is subsiding, many brands are facing increased demand and this has led to long waiting periods on many popular models. Now, Skoda India has decided to backtrack its tech to meet the production deadlines and overcome the semi-conductor shortage. However, it must be noted that this transition is only temporary.

Skoda India recently launched a new 8.0-inch touchscreen unit for Kushaq and Slavia models that previously featured a bigger 10-inch screen. This change affects even the recently launched Kushaq Monte Carlo version. While the top-spec Kushaq Monte Carlo featured the 10-inch touchscreen, the sportier model has now shifted to the new 8.0-inch unit. It must be noted here that previously, only the mid-spec Ambition and top-spec Style variants were expected to come with an 8.0-inch touchscreen.

It’s imperative to note here that once the semiconductor supplies improve, Skoda might revert to the 10-inch ‘Skoda Play’ touchscreen. For now, though, buyers of the two new MQB-A0-IN-based Skoda models will have to make do with the smaller unit. In its defense, Skoda India asserts that the same touchscreen interface is being offered on some of its European models and that it has been appreciated by many users. Interestingly, though, the VW Taigun and Virtus, which are mechanical twins of the Skoda Kushaq and Virtus, continue to be available with the 10-inch unit.

The Skoda Kushaq 8.0-inch touchscreen comes equipped with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Mirror Link connectivity. Additional features include a three-band equalizer with presets a comprehensive trip/ fuel computer, and a tire-pressure warning system. Skoda claims the 8.0-inch also comes with an improved display for the rear-view camera. There are six touch-sensitive shortcut buttons on either side of the screen. You can also see two physical knobs to control volume and scrolling. The bezels on either side allow Skoda to keep the overall housing size the same.
