Tata Safari is one of the most popular SUVs in the Indian market. However, even loyal customers are hankering for a new facelift.

Tata Motors launched the third-gen Tata Safari in early 2021. The company managed to find many customers with a Harrier-based 6/7-seater model. However, this D-SUV segment is ruled by Mahindra XUV700 now. Now, the Tata Safari is in the process of getting a much-awaited facelift. A digital concept of the upcoming model has emerged online. It offers a fresher and bolder look to the flagship SUV. Let’s take a look at the details of the 202s Tata Safari Facelift.

As you can see in the image above, the flagship SUV gets minor cosmetic updates on the front end. It gets black plastic housing for the headlamps and the fog lamps. It merges seamlessly with the bumper. You can also see an applique with embossed branding on the honeycomb grille. The rest of the front fascia remains the same. However, these small changes add a tougher look to the bumper. The digital concept also gets a new set of alloy wheels.

While details of the side profile and the rear end are not clear from these images, we expect minor changes on the taillights and a tweaked bumper on the back. On the inside, the Tata Safari facelift is likely to get the latest tech updates seen on SUVs like Mahindra XUV700. This includes ADAS, rain-sensing wipers, a panoramic sunroof, LED headlamps, and an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The rest of the features will be carried over.

Launch of Petrol Version

Just like Harrier, the Tata Safari is powered by a 2.0-liter diesel engine that outputs 170 PS of peak power and 350 Nm of max torque. The company does not offer a petrol engine. The new facelift is likely to come with the option of a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine that produces 150 PS of peak power and 250 Nm of max torque. For transmission, the popular SUV will offer 6-speed MT and 6-speed AT options.

What We Think

Based on the H5X concept, the Tata Harrier has everyone impressed with its thoroughly modern design and a high street presence. The Safari, which is a slightly bigger version of the Harrier, carries much of the same design cues and look at least equally handsome. Hence, a minor facelift is all that’s required to spruce up the aesthetics of these SUVs. On the other hand, inclusion of new features such as ADAS and the introduction of the petrol engine option should give the Safari the much needed push to try and steal the limelight away from the Mahindra XUV700.
