Mahindra Thar vs Maruti Jimny 5-door Comparison

Mahindra Thar vs Maruti Jimny 5-door Comparison

Maruti Jimny will be launched on June 7th, and the first media drive reviews are out warranting the comparison with the iconic Mahindra Thar.

Here is a Maruti Jimny vs Mahindra Thar walkaround comparison. Thar has been dominating the lifestyle off-roading market for the longest time in India. In its current generation, Mahindra has worked hard to make its interior comfortable and feature-laden so that people could also use it as their daily commuter. That resulted in the Thar becoming the most successful product in its segment. However, Maruti has introduced a more practical 5-door version of its iconic Jimny SUV in India aiming to disrupt the market. Here is a walkaround comparison of the two.

The video has been uploaded by Small Town Rider on YouTube. The YouTuber has got both SUVs parked side by side. He owns the Thar which he has modified and there is a stock Jimny. At first glance, the sheer size of the Thar is evident. It is slightly bigger than the Jimny in all aspects. At the front, the vlogger points out that the round headlamps of the Thar in stock settings in the base model are not adequate which is why he got them changed but that is not the case with the Jimny. Also, the contours on the bumper of the Jimny are well-detailed compared to that of Thar.

Both SUVs have vertical slats above the grille. The major difference is on the sides where the Thar has just 2 doors while the Jimny has 4. This makes the ingress and egress for the rear passengers much more convenient in the Jimny. Also, the rear windows of the Jimny open normally while Thar has fixed rear windows. At the rear, the spare tyre mounted on the boot lid of the Jimny also has a nice covering while the alloy wheel of the Thar is without a proper cover. There is hardly any storage space for the luggage in Thar, whereas the Jimny has a decent 211 litre of boot compartment.
