New Hyundai Verna Non-Turbo vs Tata Nexon EV Drag Race

Here is an interesting drag race between the new Hyundai Verna and Tata Nexon EV. This is an exciting competition between the internal combustion engine and the electric powertrain. Verna has been among the most desirable mid-size sedans in the country for decades now. In its current generation, it comes with two 1.5-litre petrol engines – Turbo and non-Turbo. On the other hand, the Nexon EV is the most popular electric car in the country. In fact, Tata Motors has over 80% market share of EVs in India and the Nexon EV is a major reason for that. Let us take a look at the details here.

Hyundai Verna vs Tata Nexon EV Drag Race

This video comes from KSC Vlogs on YouTube. The vlogger has the Nexon EV Max and the naturally aspirated version of the Verna. He takes the Nexon EV, while his friend takes the Verna. For the first round, the Nexon EV is in normal mode. On the count of three, both drivers accelerate. Both cars kept overtaking each other at regular intervals. However, due to the speed limit in the Nexon EV, the Verna was the winner. In the second round, the Nexon EV is set to its sportiest settings. The result is immediate. It zooms past the Verna in a matter of seconds. It was only after it hit its top speed that Verna was able to overtake it. Hence, until around 140 km/h, the Nexon EV remains ahead. But after that, the Verna takes over.

On the other hand, the Nexon EV Max has a 40.5 kWh battery which powers the electric motors to generate a healthy 143 PS and 250 Nm of peak power and torque. Note that this is the pre-facelift model. The current version retails between Rs 14.74 lakh and Rs 19.94 lakh, ex-showroom.

What We Think

We understand that YouTubers frequently employ drag races to compare vehicle performances. However, it’s crucial to grasp that these races can have lasting effects on cars, as they aren’t typically subjected to high-acceleration straight-line bursts in everyday driving situations. Engaging in drag races with personal vehicles is not recommended due to safety and mechanical concerns. We strongly advise our readers against attempting such feats and stress that drag races do not accurately represent real-world driving conditions.
