In an interesting turn of events, the CEO of Breach Candy Hospital, Dr Anirudh Kohli purchased an electric rickshaw to travel around his neighbourhood. In fact, he wrote to Anand Mahindra about his experience. Electric mobility is gaining a lot of traction not only from the carmakers but also from the general public. Everyone understands the need to act to reduce environmental impact due to vehicular pollution. While most people (who can afford it) are shifting to EVs, there are some others who have found another solution. This is one such case. Let us take a look at the details.

Anand Mahindra took to X to share this unique incident. His post reads, “Message from my friend Dr. Anirudh Kohli, CEO Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai. โ€œMy new acquisition from your stable! Loving the electric autorickshaw !โ€ Anirudh led his hospitalโ€™s fight against the pandemic. Now he and other Alibag homeowners like Rajesh Sachdev (see link below) are starting a new, benign pandemic by evangelizing modest, but sustainable transport solutions in their serene weekend neighbourhoods. Three-wheelers as personal transport may just be a new trendโ€”and weโ€™re not complaining!”

The video clips show Dr Anirudh Kohli and some other residents of the Alibag neighbourhood indulging in these electric rickshaws. They find it to be an amazing way to contribute to the health and wellness of humans, as well as the environment. These rickshaws can easily be driven around narrow streets or inside neighbourhood areas. In fact, one person in the video mentions that he would appreciate if this electric rickshaw had a 360-degree camera so that he could manoeuvre it around tight spaces with relative ease. This initiative has inspired a lot of others to appreciate it and even propel more people to go for such solutions.

Author’s Note

Anand Mahindra is one of the most followed Indian businessmen on X with close to 11 million followers. He keeps sharing interesting instances and often allure the netizens with his witty charm. I love witnessing his X posts which are a mix of information, knowledge and a sense of humour. Coming to the idea of people willing to adopt electric rickshaws, I can’t say much based on this isolated incident alone. At least in theory, it sounds like a great idea. But the difference between an idea and implementation is ginormous and often not easy to bridge. Still, this was an inspiring tale nevertheless.
