Specs

The upcoming Thar will utilize the same platform as the Scorpio N and will offer similar powertrain options. This implies it will be capable of being equipped with either a 2.0-litre mStallion turbo petrol engine or a 2.2-litre mHawk turbo diesel engine, with both manual and automatic transmissions available. It is possible that these will be tuned differently to the regular Thar. Moreover, advanced off-roading technology will be integrated to tackle various challenging terrains. Currently, the 3-door Thar is priced between Rs 11.25 lakh and Rs 17.60 lakh, ex-showroom. It is expected that the 5-door variant will command a significantly higher price.

Author’s Note

The 5-door Mahindra Thar has been undergoing extensive testing for a substantial duration. It has been evaluated in various locations, including the rugged terrain of the Himalayas, demonstrating thorough testing by the Indian automaker. Additionally, the elongated wheelbase will yield a roomier cabin, facilitating a larger boot space, and thereby overcoming a significant constraint in the existing 3-door model. As a result, the 5-door Thar is anticipated to greatly enhance practicality. Nevertheless, we will have to wait a bit longer to experience the finalized production version firsthand.
