The next-generation iterations of the Toyota Fortuner and Hilux are slated to debut in 2025 with some key updates
The upcoming next-gen Toyota Fortuner and Hilux are reported to get a powerful turbo petrol engine. We know that in order to reduce carbon footprint, carmakers need to keep updating their engines. This can be particularly expensive for diesel engines beyond a point. That is why we are witnessing numerous cases of car companies simply ditching diesel engines in favour of turbo petrol ones. Next-Gen Toyota Fortuner to Get Turbo Petrol Engine
The next-gen Toyota Fortuner and Hilux will arrive next year. There have already been numerous reports about the possible updates to these. However, the latest news talks about them getting a new turbo petrol engine. It will be a 2.0-litre turbo petrol mill which will be available in multiple configuration options. The most accessible variant will likely make 300 hp and 400 Nm of maximum power and torque. However, the more powerful iterations could also range from 400 hp / 549 Nm to 600 hp in the GR trims. Also, these will vary from market to market.
Having so many options means that the buyers will have a wide range of choices depending on their requirements like budget and application. We know that Hilux is one of the most successful pickup trucks in many international markets around the world. Hence, the next-gen avatar is expected to be more powerful and possess better off-roading capabilities than the existing model. That is tough since the existing version is immensely capable already. Hence, we could see the next-gen Toyota Fortuner and Hilux have a new powertrain, more modern features and tweaked aesthetics.
My View
I see that diesel engines are slowly becoming extinct due to stricter-becoming emission regulations all across the globe. The turbo petrol engines seem to be the logical substitution, especially in hardcore off-roading SUVs and pickup trucks. Hence, it won’t be a surprise if we get these cars with potent turbo petrol mills. However, I would love to see a thoroughly updated interior with the addition of loads of new-age features in the upcoming versions of these two eminent vehicles. We shall have to wait a bit longer to know the exact details.
