Maruti Baleno Scores 4 Stars at Bharat NCAP

The highest-selling premium hatchback in the country has displayed a dominating performance at the Bharat NCAP

Maruti Baleno has been able to bag a decent 4-star safety rating at the Bharat NCAP. Baleno is the most successful premium hatchback in the country. It rivals the likes of the Hyundai i20 and Tata Altroz in India. However, due to its mileage, styling, feature-laden cabin and after-sales network of Maruti Suzuki, customers have really taken a liking to it. The one thing which eluded it was a high safety rating score. With that out of the way, the premium hatchback now becomes an even more appealing proposition.

Maruti Baleno Scores 4 Stars at NCAP

According to the latest announcement by Bharat NCAP, the Maruti Baleno bagged 4 stars in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 3 stars in Child Occupant Protection (COP) category. This is represented by 24.04 points out of 32 in AOP and 34.81 points out of 49 in COP section. The standard equipment list includes 2 airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounts at the rear, seatbelt pretensioner, seatbelt load-limiter, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) (UN GTR No.8 / UNECE R140 / AIS-133), pedestrian protection (AIS-100) and seatbelt reminder (AIS-145). All these factors contributed to the overall scores.

If we delve a bit deeper into each section, we see that it achieved 11.54 points out of 16 in the Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test and 12.50 points out of 16 in the Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test. The Side Pole Impact Pole Test was rated ‘OK’. This combines for a total score of 24.04 / 32 in AOP. This is good for 4 stars for the adult occupants. Similarly, the 34.81 / 49 points in COP consists of a Dynamic Score of 16.81 out of 24, a CRS Installation Score of 12 out of 12 and a Vehicle Assessment Score of 6 out of 13. This resulted in a 3-star rating for the child occupants.

My View

We know that Maruti Suzuki is a giant in our market in terms of overall sales and total market share. Its latest breed of vehicles is even focusing on safety. The Dzire is a prime example of that. Following in its footsteps, even the Baleno has secured an impressive rating, which is bound to enhance its appeal for a whole bunch of new-age customers. Let us see what impact this score has on its sales going forward.
