The Kia Carens Clavis in the ICE guise was launched only a couple of months ago and its electric counterpart is already here
The much-awaited new Kia Carens Clavis EV has finally been launched in India. Note that it is the first made-in-India EV from the Korean auto giant. That marks a huge occasion for Kia in our market. Remember, the EV6 and EV9 electric cars are full imports. The regular Carens Clavis offers a unique proposition with 3-row seating and availability of tons of new-age amenities. It is designed for large families who want to travel around with comfort and practicality over long distances. For now, let us take a look at the specifics of its latest electric avatar.
New Kia Carens Clavis EV – Design
In terms of design, the Kia Carens Clavis EV shares most elements with the ICE version. That is not necessarily a bad thing since they embody the latest global Kia design philosophy. This includes a sealed off front fascia with a connected LED light bar running across the width and culminating into 7-shaped LED DRLs on either side. The lower section contains a rugged bumper with metallic inserts and black components. The charging socket is located on the bumper. On the sides, there are elegant 17-inch alloy wheels, rugged side body claddings, black side pillars, roof rails and prominent wheel arches. Completing the exterior design is the connected LED light bar at the rear joining the LED taillamps, a roof-mounted spoiler, a shark fin antenna and a sturdy bumper. All in all, it will certainly have an imposing road presence.

Specs
The Kia Carens Clavis EV uses the familiar E-GMP architecture, which also underpins other Kia and Hyundai EVs. There are two IP-67-certified battery pack alternatives – 51.4 kWh and 42 kWh. The batteries have successfully passed the 420 mm water soak test, drop test and extreme vibration tests. These power an electric motor to produce a healthy 171 PS and 255 Nm and 135 PS and 255 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. This propels the EV from 0 to 100 km/h in just 8.4 seconds. That is quite impressive for a 7-seat MPV. The battery has a liquid-cooled thermal management system. The ARAI-certified range is 490 km and 404 km with 51.4 kWh and 42 kWh battery packs, respectively.
With a 100 kW DC fast charger, you can juice up the battery from 10% to 80% in just 39 minutes. You can also choose either a 7.4 kW or 11 kW AC home charger. This ensures that buyers get to choose the right option as per their needs. Taking care of the aftersales solutions, Kia has over 250 EV-specific workshops across the country. Also, over 100 Kia dealerships have DC charging capabilities from 60 kW to 240 kW capacity. It gets an 8-year/160,00 km warranty on the EV.
