The Indian carmaker invited a bunch of Australian car reviewers to India and exclusively confirmed to them about the development of the Thar Sports. In essence, it is the monocoque version of the Thar, primarily designed for international markets. In recent times, the SUV has been spotted testing on Indian roads.
5 Key Things About Mahindra Thar Sports
- Sub-4m Length – Just like the regular 3-door Thar, the Thar Sports will also be a sub-4m SUV. This gives us a clear idea about the kind of product it will be. In fact, many digital renditions based on the spy images showcase a butch and upright SUV with a boxy silhouette. In fact, it is still unclear whether or not it will be sold in India as the new Bolero Neo.
- Monocoque Construction – This is something that will be totally different in the Thar Sports in comparison to the regular Thar. Being the most successful off-roading SUV in our country, the Thar has always boasted a ladder-on-frame construction. That is the ideal configuration for off-roadering machines. However, the Thar Sports will move away from that setup and will be underpinned by a monocoque chassis.
- Hybrid Variant – Interestingly, the Mahindra Thar Sports could also be offered with a hybrid powertrain. That is something we will get to know more about at the upcoming Independence Day event by Mahindra next month.
- Global Model – We know that Mahindra is not allowed to sell the Thar in Australia in its current form due to the legal battle with Jeep. Hence, the new avatar is designed in a way that it will differentiate itself from the Thar. In this manner, Mahindra will be able to sell it in various international markets.
- August 15 Debut Likely – Finally, we are excited about the Independence Day event from Mahindra.
